Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, just seen it on the Official site.

ALONSO: I ONLY WANT TO PLAY FOR LIVERPOOL

Xabi Alonso insists he has no intention of leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid despite the continued speculation that is emanating from Spain.
Reds boss Rafael Benitez moved instantly to quash these rumours at the weekend, stressing Alonso is not for sale, and now the player himself has spoken out on the subject.

"I want to stay at Liverpool, that is for sure," he said today. "I know there have been stories in the Spanish press but I take no notice of them. I am only interested in playing for Liverpool and I'm concentrating only on preparing for
the new season."

Glad to see Chabby come out and categorically deny the rumours, the quotes from Rafa were a little disconcerting - as if "we don't want to sell but if...etc...we have had no contact from Madrid".

From icliverpool:

RAFA BENITEZ today issued a hands off warning to Real Madrid over speculation the Spanish giants are set to move for Xabi Alonso.

New Madrid boss Fabio Capello is believed to have identified Alonso as the player he wants to build his new look side around.

But Benitez is in no mood to lose the playmaker he paid

Alonso was never going to leave.

As for Real Madrid, didn't their president-elect promise to bring in Robben, Fabregas & Kaka? Never thought it was possible, but its funny how the Real supporters have fell for the trap again.

Xabi - Gerrard - Momo

What a midfield trio. Superb.

You'll struggle to find a better engine room than ours top three.

However we do seem to be a little thin now Didi is out, our only reasonable "option" is Bolo. Maybe on youngish CM still coming in?

Yes, just the thought could give me nightmares too.

I think they didn't elect him because of his stupid promisis, but despite them. He was probably still the best choice.

I do think we still have the best central midfield in the country, ok, Hamann has left for City, but I think Zenden might just surprise a lot of LFC fans this season.

He looks far more accomplished playing in the centre than on the left, where I've never rated him. He had a very good season up at Middlesbrough playing through the middle - obviously he isn't in the same league as Gerrard, Alonso and Sissoko in terms of overall quality, but I do think he provides us with something extra, which is the ability to bring the ball forward centrally and lay off a decent space to split defences.

I can see certain games, when we need to give Gerrard a rest, yet still play a midfield three, where

Alonso-----Sissoko
------Zenden------

Could be very effective.

If we can 'poach' a few youngsters for the central midfield ressies this year, maybe a wonderkid (tm) from Spain, then I will be happy with our Central Midfield going into the new season.

Yeah, the promised huge signings just NEVER seem to come off for Madrid, do they?

Apart from Figo, Zidane, Beckham, Robinho, Ronaldo, Ramos, Cannavaro, Carlos.......

I can't think why any Madrid fan would fall for it again.
Well, apart from the fact that they're the biggest, richest club in the world with a history for bringing in the biggest and best players in the world.
