It looks like the Alves deal is off, although Ballague was on Talksport last night (maybe 909) saying that the deal may still go ahead.

The deal is off/delayed due to the fact that we're not meeting the asking price / method of payment that they want, correct?

Is this because we do actually have a lack of funds OR is it because Rafa has a value for the player and will not go a penny over it?

Do you think if we had the cash that Rafa would pay the extra needed?

Discuss!

Depends what you mean by having the cash. I think we certainly have the money to buy Alves but it would impinge on other deals. I think if Rafa was managing a Chelsea style budget we would have just paid it but I think in any other circumstance Rafa will stick to his valuation. It makes sense as by meeting teams requests on every transfer both Chelsea and Newcastle have had to pay way over the value for players and take massive losses in the transfer market.

IMO it comes down to the fact that Rafa will not go a penny over his valuation of a player. I reckon the money is there from the board to go a couple of million higher, but I reckon Rafa simply refuses to be shafted by another club.

If it is true, then fair play to him!
