RAFAEL Benitez does not expect the English Football Association to punish Steven Gerrard or Callum Davenport despite their ugly bust-up following Liverpool's 1-0 win at Tottenham.
The England midfield player squared up to Davenport immediately after the final whistle at White Hart Lane today (AEDT) and was then involved in a scuffle with Tom Huddlestone as emotions threatened to spiral out of control.
Gerrard, who has been awarded an MBE by Britain's Queen Elizabeth II in the New Year honours list, was eventually bundled down the tunnel by his team-mates and coaching staff.
The FA will almost certainly investigate the incident but Benitez believes there is no reason for any player to be banned.
He said: "Steven was upset but I think the other player elbowed him and when incidents like that happen when our players are nervous, there is always a problem.
"But I watched a game recently between Tottenham and Blackburn where there were 20 players all trying to become involved in fighting and nothing happened to them. I don't think anything will happen here."
First i knew of that, i know Gerrard and Davenport had words during the match after they both flew into each other but didn't see/hear anything about them squaring up at the final whsitle.
