    Young Defender leaves on loan

Liverpool defender James Smith has joined Scottish First Division side Ross County on loan until the end of the season.
The Liverpool born full back made his first team debut in the 4-3 Carling Cup win over Reading at Anfield in October when he came on as a 74th minute substitute for Lee Peltier.

A product of the club's Academy Smith was given a new two-year contract in the summer.

Ross County are third from bottom in the Scottish First Division and the arrival of the tough defender will give Scott Leitch's side a boost

Good luck to him, but that really is an odd move. Not sure what the quality of the Scottish first division is but I can't imagine it is great. I know it is competitive experience against older players but I would question the level of coaching he will recieve.

Top scorer in the PL no less, however, there might be some link with Ross County or the area that we are unaware of, and it might suit both parties at the current time.

We could do with getting a feeder club and we could do worse than get one in Scotland, but we need to make sure that players a/ get games and b/ get good coaching when sendinh them on loan. The only way to do that is a long term deal with a club in my opinion.

Jimmy Smith is the most common name in Scotland, serious fact.
