Would you take a punt on him - if he declines to sign a new Contract at Real?

What would you say if our Dubai consortium concluded the formal take over of the club combined with signing Golden Balls - to add further publicity for themselves and the club?

I know he harps on about his passion for United, but did we envisage Ince signing for Liverpool after his Italian stint?

Afterall, everyone has their price.

This is all hypothetical nonsense I must add - I am not trying to start the illusive - my old mans best mate yada yada....

David Beckham will leave Real Madrid in the summer, according to the club's sporting director Predrag Mijatovic.
"Beckham will leave us, we will not renew his contract with the club," he told Sky Italia television.

They scrapped their wage cap to attract Beckham and hopefully other aging stars to the league. He has only gone their because he is already big in Europe and Asia so now he will try to crack America.

BrooklynRed

I think he made a great move for his career not as a footballer, but as a global brand. This is partially possible because of the MLS finally signing a TV contract with ESPN where ESPN is paying to show the matches. I think this deal just got a lot more valuable for ESPN and that is GREAT news for football in the USA. If we can start getting serious match coverage on sports media here, with Beckham's inevitable mug leading the way, I think the game could really grow here. For this alone, he's worth the money. That said, I hate the Galaxy (DC United for me, always) and I don't think he'll make much of a difference on the pitch.

Also, if he's getting £500K a week, I hope this opens the eyes of legitimate footballers that this is a market to come play in and maybe we can help grow the game in this country with real players in the future.

Finally, the Clint Dempseys of the world must be PISSED. After fighting the MLS for years to get a decent wage and having it be thrown in their faces how the league can't afford a decent player salary, this will sting. I hope the players go after Becks big time; He now represents a ridiculous imbalance in the wage structure in the league. Time for a legit player's association IMO.

Why can't he call it association football, that is the correct terminology?

Soccer is an abbreviation for Association Football. The Football
Association was formed in London in October 1863 when representatives
of eleven clubs and schools met in an attempt to standardize the rules
of the game. One of the rules prohibited the carrying of the ball, a
rule that would lead to the Rugby-oriented clubs leaving the
Association several months later. The name Association Football was
coined to distinguish it from Rugby.

By 1889, the abbreviation socca' was in use, and the spelling soccer
had made its appearance by 1895."

My friends and I frequently played "soccer" when I was a lad!

MLS recently changed its rules on salary caps, clearing the way for Beckham to sign a lucrative deal. LA Galaxy has already started raking in the cash since the news was announced.

kurtangle01
12-01-07, 01:19 AM
I have to give credit to him that at this stage of his career he has managed to secure such a lucrative deal to play football in one of the worst leagues in the world. I do think that we have to look at the fact that this move is more to suit his trout of a wife in the hope that she can actually rekindle some sort of career, not that she had one in the first place, than suit his own! And if she can't do anything at least she can be even more pretentios than she already is by hanging out with some of Hollywoods finest Z list celebrities. I wonder how long it'll be before she's climbing out of Limo's with Brinteny and Paris with her beef in full view just to get her picture taken?

David Beckham would, if he had any ambition left in him, have signed for a club in Europe that was still playing CL footy and had designs on winning their league title. I guess the fame and glamour of L.A. and his friendship with that lunatic Tom Cruise was more important to him. How long before him and skinny spice are fully paid up members of the Tom Cruise and Katy Holmes scientology cult?

:haha: I don't care what you call it. I don't care who thinks Becks is stupid. I don't care who doesn't like it called soccer. I don't care what anyone thinks about him coming to the states to play for the worst league in the world.

On the 11th January 2007 it was announced that the galaxy had made a bold move by signing David Beckham for 125 times more salary then the entire rest of the team combined. When asked about the new signing, forward Alan Gordon replied "I don't have time to discuss it, I have to go to my second job as a night security guard at AEG headquarters."

This is just pathetic. Really, what can one man do with so much money, it's not like he hasn't got plenty already.

He says he wants to help the local game, my farken arse. Why doesn't he make the club pay less and put the money into the grass roots level then.

Idiot.

I think LA is paying him but also AEG and Adidas are paying a big part of the contract. Only thing that pisses me off is now I have to deal with seeing Man Utd, Chelsea and Galaxy jerseys everywhere now:shake:

I'd always imagined you to be about 6'5", running to fat and wearing a baseball hat.

Hang on, that's Michael Moore.

anyone think the 250M to make him the highest ever is just a way of promoting football in the USA. Loads of amercians will want to see what's the fuss about.

great quote on radio 1 yesterday

think its good move for him, few years time he might make it into films and has a good chance to be as successfull as Vinnie Jones

beckham wont do much to further the game in the US imo. They younger generations have grown up playing it and only recently have they been able to watch it with the FSC and Goltv starting to show quality games. It will continue to grow on its own, the majority of young people in the US enjoy watching English football, La Liga and CL much more than the MLS and having Beckham in the showpiece side of the league will not persuade many people to watch. initially people will watch for the spectacle but no one likes shit football and thats all MLS has to offer really. it chaps my ass that beckham is moving there under the pretense of 'football reasons' bollox hes just following the trail of the almighty dollar.

no matter what you think it will still be hilarious to watch golden balls get the runaround from no names

what if he gets injured in his first game, and his carreer is over? after signing a five year $250m contract?

Ron_Mexico

it could happen but im sure the parties paying his wages have covered that scenario. it should be mentioned that the 250m is not guaranteed, he has to hit every bonus in his contract to get all the money

Capello says that Beckham will never play for Real Mdrid ever again. Not even if he has injuries in the first team squad. I guess that signals the end of David Beckhams career as a top level footballer. Serves to money grabbing bastard right IMHO.

What's the bet that he's an L.A. Galaxy player by the middle of February?

Won't be any good for him anyways, American league don't start till April (I think)
