View Full Version : Daniel negreanu
What are peoples opinion on his game?
For me, he's not as good as people seem to think. Everytime I see him on box, he's losing a fortune in high stakes poker or getting his ass kicked out of a tourney..
Is this just bad timing?
He does seem to be a good reader of the game...
Too aggressive for me though.
An example was yesterday. He played 6/8 off suit and flopped a straight (7 9 10)
Mimi Tram was holding K J and a Q came on the turn giving her a higher straight. The way the betting went, Negreanu called her cards right but had to call anyway to make sure.
He lost a decent sized pot and wasn't too happ BUT, if you play those cards, you have to expect badbeats like that sometimes..
Yes, it's good to mix it up but i'm not a fan of the 'super aggressive' style myself.

Maybe , but I have seen him win a few tournies he shouldn't have because of his style . He also reads the cards like no-one else I've seen . Too much of a loud-mouth for me but it works well for him obviously so why should he change it up ?
I like him a lot, I like his style and Texas Dollie rates him as the best young player around although I think young is being generous and Phil Ivey might have a thing or two to say about that.
My take on his game is this, he can be ultra aggressive, he is not afraid to move his chips around and its very very difficult to get him off a hand. He likes to play deceptive big hand buster types of hands and is not afraid to try and draw a monster. His style reminds me of Dolyes, he gets a lot of action and he gives a lot of action. Because of this you never are sure what he has got. I take TV tournments with a pinch of salt and try to learn the good stuff from them. That said Sean Sheeky is a terrible player .. and that fella from the Lakers is just a walking ATM machine for these players

He wasnt agressive enough if you ask me in that hand. Seen it on the TV.

His life time winnings stands at $8,143,366 which is only bettered by the last two winners of the WSOP Main Event. Think what you like about him, but he is a very very good player. Watching one specific hand or the select few that are shown on tv is not really much to go on.
Although I have to say, personally, he annoys me. The way he goes "I know what you have, I know what you have, but I have to call anyway..." "Damn it, I knew you had that.."
If you really knew Daniel, then why did you call???????
Although I guess it makes good tv.

I didn't see the hand nor who he was playing against, but you've got to remember that these guys are playing the same people all the time and know each others game inside out. Sure, if you look at that hand, he should have been more aggressive, but that's not taking into account the other people at the table and how they play, and sometimes you have to mix things up a bit.

Negreanu is a brilliant player imho.
Purely because of this people gun for him. Its impossible to play his successful style anymore without someone just calling him for the sake of knocking him out.
I've sent him an email before asking for a few tips and bits, hes a very very nice fella and was helpful with his responses also.
Can't help but respect the guy. Class act.
