I have to say, that Gabriel Paletta looks the dogs bollocks. I know its only early, its only pre season etc but fuck me, I cant remember being so impressed by a centre half. and hes only 20!!!!!! scouting award of the century there i think

Him, Bellamy and..... FOWLER have been outstanding pre-season IMO.
I have to admit I haven't see any of our pre-season games so far, but hopefully he'll get to play some part in the game against Mainz, which is on Ch5 - I think.

Fowler has looked much sharper, just hope that he doesn't play too much games early on in the season.

And so did Pennant today. He really changed things when he came on :)

I've been as impressed as you. I've been too scared to say anything though in case I jinx the poor lad and he turns into a Josemi :(
If he continues to play the way he has to this point then our backline is sorted for 10 years :)
He looks to be a bargain at 2million. Very impressed with him soo far, hope he continues improving.
When is agger back????? havent seen him much since we signed him.
Yeah loved watched Paletta yesterday. I can see why they call him 'The Drill'!
Absolutely no-nonsense, classic Argentine defender. Like Speedy though, I'm reluctant to say much more in case he does a Josemi - who started in much the same, tough-tackling vein.
Paletta, though, as age on his side and he does look to be a bargain at

Yep, Paletta looks great, strong, powerful, composed, already above Agger in the pecking order, in my opinion.
But (and I hate to say it) I've been watching the U19 Championships this summer, and I would have to say, Man Utd's lad, Pique, is as good, if not better, and he's only 18.

Has barragan played well in the u19 championships???? I cant believe we are selling him even though he is sooo highly rated
If he isn't happy and we have a buy back clause it makes sense. I don't think he would have got many chances for us anyway.

To be honest, Josemi NEVER impressed me...
Not that its much of a complement, but at least Paletta has done some good in pre-season...

Yeah, totally agree with you there.
Paletta, Bellamy and Fowler have been real standouts for me as well.
Paletta has been immense for Liverpool in the preseason... I hope he continues this form in the Premiership and CL. I've got the feeling that he's never affraid od the opposition, allways commit himself 100%. I believe Sami's place in the Liverpool first XI is under fire :)
Great job Paletta, keep up the good work lad!
Paletta looks like Ayala or Cannavaro... until he does a small mistake and he will be labelled as a Traore..
Like the look of him though and hope he can become a very good player for us.. Replace Hyypia maybe?
It's an interesting one as Rafa compared his style to Carra's and Agger's more to Hyypia. I would have thought that this would mean he sees Agger as the natural replacement for Hyypia, however with his injuries maybe Palletta will get the chance to prove himself.
Anyone know how tall he is? I ask because of the obvious strength of Sami in the air and the fact I think that we will miss his dominance in that area when he finally hangs up his boots.

I think most defenders would struggle to match Sami's aerial dominance. I did notice Benitez comparing Paletta to Carragher but from the few games I have watched, Paletta seem very comfortable in the air as well...

impressed with paletta as well, his tackling is superb.
agger still is a complete stranger to me even though he signed for us more than 6 months ago, bit of a sicknote.........maybe we could add aurelio to that category soon.

First year with us he was over here (in the US) on a pre-season tour and he looked the real deal.
Hence my rather hasty adoption of JosemisUncle on KT (boy is that one I regretted :) )
Paletta was impressive, showed good timing in the tackle and looks like the type of player who will needle the opposition forwards when the ball is out of the way. Peltier also showed some promise considering he was played out of position.
Rafa's building a good, young squad who should be around for a long time to come.

Oh yeah, I forgot about him! Thought he was quite impressive as well...
Once Rafa has him drilled in exactly where to be positionally in every situation Paletta looks like he will be a very good signing.
Until Rafa has him trained poperly though expect a few ocassions where he gets sucked out of position looking to go after the ball / tackle

Paletta is 6'2 vs Sami 6'3 vs Agger 6'3 vs Carra 5'9

No. I don't think so...

I've been very impressed, though it's early days. He looks very English like, in that he turns like a steamtrain and doesnt have an awful lot of pace. Reads the game exceptionally well though. Looks a good aquisition, but we shall see..

Well I'm 5'9 and I've stood next to Carra and he's certainly taller than me by a few inches

Not according to the offal.
Then the "offal" is wrong.
First, there is no way that Carragher is only 5'9. Gerrard is definately 6'0 or over. Can you honestly say that Gerrard is 3 inches taller than Carragher???
Secondly, Hyypia is around 6'3. I think most people will agree to that. Then how on earth is Agger 6'3 as well? Agger is clearly an inch or two shorter. The same applies to Paletta....
Just common sense I think...

Obviously I jest, but he wasn't the most convincing today - even if he was playing out of position.
I just hope we don't have a repeat of the Josemi situation with Paletta, although he's young enough to hopefully avoid such a scenario.
I don't actually think Paletta will play many Prem/CL games this season anyway.
He was rotten today, but as agger is ahead of him i'm not too concerned.
He has looked promising previously though.

yes but you went all weak at the knees and couldn't stand up straight,
but no way is carra 5'9
the man is a giant(in my eyes):haha:
