    gary kelly

    - "Leeds United have senstionally admitted they blew all of the money they earned from their 2000-2001 Champions League run on Gary Kelly's current contract. That was £18million over 5 years"
    - "Still picking up a salary of 70,000Euros a week at the Championship strugglers, which places him as one of the three best paid fullbacks in England with only Ashley Cole at Chelsea and Gary Neville at Manchester United paid more"
    - "Kelly, 32, sees his 5 year contract run out at the end of the season, and the club are counting the days until he is off the wage bill"
    - "He is among the four best paid Irish players in England- Only Shay Given, Robbie Keane and Damien Duff would be on the same kind of money"
    - "From a footballing viewpoint, Kelly should have moved on years ago to prolong his top level career, but with nobody prepared to offer him half of what he was on at Elland Road, why should he leave?"

    no wonder leeds are struggling

        Brilliant fun.

Would love to have seen the Leeds United Wage bill over the past 5 years, would have made brilliant reading.

£39k a week on Seth Johnson when he only wanted £20-25k, stuff like that.

Is that true he was on £39,000 when he only wanted £20,000-£25,000 that is a complete joke where is he now anyway.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Back where he started, at Derby. Yes it’s true. Seth Johnson and his agent made a proposal to Ridsdale, and Ridsdale said something to the effect of:

“We’re not going to pay you £25k a week..........we’re going to pay you FORTY grand a week! How about that eh? Hmmm? Nice isn’t it?!”

Ridsdale really ought to be held accountable for screwing that club over. I hate Leeds and their fans (as a collective) but no-one deserves that.

I thought he was from Crewe? He was friends with Murphy and was going to come to us but Murphy wasn't playing he told Johnson that Houllier was a ******.

I heard that Seth and his agent were drawing up a plan for their meeting along the lines of start out with a negotiating figure of £25k and settle for anything over £20k.

Meanwhile in cloud cuckoo land, Ridsdale had other plans.

Anyway, the meeting takes place and before Seth or the agent had chance to speak Ridsdale immediately offers £39k.

                  Hands are shaken, meeting over

If that's true, Peter Risdale is a total cock. Did he get his business degree ?

I heard a fairly similar version of the story. Johnson and his agent would have been happy with in or around 20k. The meeting with Ridsdale took place and before Johnson or his agent said anything Ridsdale offered him somthing along the lines of 35k a week. Johnson and his agent apparently brassnecked it and said they had been hoping for 39k a week and Ridsdale duly agreed.
