View Full Version : Momo Sissoko
I watched him play yesterday agains K'lautern and I was totally impressed! I know he's a great footballer and he prooved that last season... But man, what a game for him.
I think he looks bigger and stronger than last season and his tackles are getting more perfect by the minute. Plus he showed that he can pass the ball a little better and also dribble past defence (actually, this impressed me the most!):D
Momo!
:handshake: Agreed
Some lovely deft touches & passes
His normal physical prescence & a fair bit of flair too

And don't forget! Momo used to be a striker so I'm sure he can finish a bit as well.
A real gem.

I was very impressed with him, he went out there and really played hard like he was a youth player trying to earn his spot on the 1st team. He is really a force out there and always wins those 50-50 balls in the middle of the park. Hopfully that his passing has improved becasue if he got that down he would be even a better player
I thought his short passing improved loads last seson. He lacks a bit of awareness now and again but that is something that improves with experience.
At the start of pre-season I heard someone say he was overweight so I'm glad he is now looking back to his dynamic self.
the lad will just get bigger stronger and better as the years go on.
We have a legend on our hands
Has he scored yet?
Rafa can really spot a central midfielder can't he? Xabi and Momo

Has he scored yet?
Nope. He doesn't really get himself into goalscoring opportunities enough.
I've only seen him shoot at goal twice before - both were terrible efforts. Which is why I find it hard to believe he was a striker....
I think he's had a few chances - made the keeper make a save once or twice - as you say though he's had some gilt-edged chances that he's got a bit excited about and missed by a mile :D :o

I would love to know the Secret for his Endless Energy. The Only time I've seen him tired was in The FA Cup Final, and that's because he had to do Xabi's running as well :D

Reckon if he could improve his shooting he'd be edging towards one of the best in the world in his position. Everything else is perfect - especially the way he kicks the shit out of anyone who gets on his nerves.
Wonder whether if he'd had the misfortune to end up at Woodison he'd still be there now?

I don't think I've ever seen him shoot in my life.
An absolutely superb all-round box-to-bos midfielder he may well be, but let's not get carried away here. He couldn't score with a golden cock.
If he gets more than 3 goals this season, I'll be astounded.

:haha: I have seen him shoot - at least thats what I think it was, overall he looks a really promising player. His energy and constant tackling is unbelievable, and if he can improve his passing and develop his 'brain' a bit he will be a great player for us.
Amazingly, didn't Momo start his career as a striker?!?

Hello everyone
He nearly scored in the euro super cup final when he burst though and fired against the bar. thnk that was the closest ive seen him come

I saw him shoot and it was like a Steve McManaman long-range effort.
hehe - all we need then is a dodgy bounce over a half asleep Ian Walker for Momo to score his first

nice turn of phrase...also correct about Momo.
Shooting is hardly his strongest asset, is it?

No it isn't, but do we really need it to be?
Leave him to do what he's good at. Makelele couldn't score in a brothel either, but nobody criticises his contribution.

I was labelling him a "Black Robbie Savage" last season, because, if you distilled down his displays, all there really is, is running about a LOT and tackling. That's it.
His passing, shooting, and basic decision-making were poor.
I haven't seen the display the above post refers to, but it is heartening to hear about his improvements.

Id say, for the price he cost, he's Rafa's best signing...

Hopefully, we'll see Reina, Bellamy, Gonzalez and Pennant all in the running for that honour.
And Rafa's best signing - at any price - is still Xabi Alonso.
If Carrick can go for

That transfer fee is ridiculous, a non goalscoring, non tackling central midfielder. Good passer mind but that''s.about.it.

I knew you would say Alonso....i knew Sissoko qualities before he joined us and he confirmed what I thought of him...A beast in midfield, perhaps the best defensive midfielder in England now...
Im off to Zurich...

I think he's rapidly becoming part of the Gerrard, Alonso, Carra, Pepe crew - players we never want to see leave

Xabi would have to be in with a shout :handshake:
Manchester United's management/scouting network should be having a long hard look at themselves that Momo was allowed to be touted around the Premiership last year for

It is ridiculous, but its the price you have to pay for being a "big" club. I was talking to some Manchester United fans the other day and they were lambasting Ferguson for his inability to do shrewd business in the transfer market: "Buys Michael Carrick for 20 million pounds but then sells Van Nistelrooy for 10 million pounds..." along those lines. Now, where have we heard THAT argument before?
Arsenal is a big exception I guess. They have made howlers, I'm sure, but their ability to buy top players at cheap prices and sell for a substantial profit is second to none.
Rafa's best signing? How about Pako? ;):D
Failing that, Xabi Alonso for me. Pure brilliance.

and only twice the price of Momo. Xabi is almost irreplaceable. :handshake:
...and I still have a sneaky feeling Xabi will be on the bench for the Sheff Utd game..... :o

No chance.
Whilst it's all fair and well having a couple of big bruisers on the pitch to match their undoubted 'rough-em-up' tactics, we still need somebody there to open them up a bit.
Besides, wasn't Chabby one of the best tacklers in the Premiership last season? Or am I making that up?

Well, Pennant has been bough to play at RM, which means Stevie G won't play there as ofetn, so there is going to be more and more competition for a central berth this season.
Although I suppose SG could be allowed to roam around all over the place as part of a central three with Alonso and Sissoko.
It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Yeah I think he was, like Didi he reads the opportunity to tackle well, rather than hurling himself into one like Momo.. I think he's more than used to the rough and tumble by now, I wish he wouldnt do those silly turns on the edge of the box though..
Besides, wasn't Chabby one of the best tacklers in the Premiership last season? Or am I making that up?
According to those often misleading OPTA stats, he was the best tackler. Well, he made the most tackles (I think) though I'm not sure if that's tackles won or merely tackles put in.
If I remember he made the second higest number of tackles but recorded a sucess %age abot 10% better than anyone else in the top 10 in terms of numbers. I was pretty shocked by how good he was at this when I saw the stats.
I just think for the rough and tumble of Sheff Utd and their idiot of a manager, we will go with Zenden on the left, Sissoko and Gerrard in the middle and Pennant on the right.
Should the game change, and it becomes less of a fight out there, we can change things and bring Xabi on.
Xabi did make more tackles in than other players last year, but he's more likely to be bullied than Sissoko and Gerrard.
Warnock will be building his players up for the kick off now - he'll try anything to 'prove' to the SKY cameras that he's good enough for the Premier league.

He made the most tackles in the Prem last season. I saw the figures on YNWA. Quite a shock really.
