View Full Version : Did the LFC Masters win last night?
Anyone go to see them, or see it on TV?
Beat Man City 7-3 in the final. Durnin was top scorer, and Molby player of the tournament. Beat City, Man U and the Bluenoses in the group stage.
Typically impressive, considering we had the oldest team there, but if you don't give the opposition a kick they can't beat you.
Durnin always looks the business, like every time he plays he's out to prove that he should have been given a chance at Anfield. He was up against Kenny and Rushy at the time, mind.
Nice to see that Nicky Tanner's maintained his form after all these years though.

I'm not old enough to remember his Anfield days, or lack of 'em - Tell me though, did he always have absolutely no neck?
Bellamy's role model, apparently...!!
thanks for the info on our 7-3 win

John Paul Durnin (born Bootle, October 18th 1965) is an ex-professional footballer. His career began with Liverpool in 1986, when he was signed from local non-league side Waterloo Dock. A midfielder or striker, Durnin was a regular in Liverpool's reserve side, but couldn't break into the first team, making only 2 appearances, both in the Football League Cup.
In October 1988 he was loaned out to West Bromwich Albion, and moved to Oxford the following February. He spent four and a half years with Oxford, moving to Portsmouth in 1993, where he played for 7 seasons. His final season at Portsmouth (1999/2000) saw him loaned out to Blackpool and then Carlisle. He signed a permament deal with Carlisle in February 2000, but he was released the following summer.
He spent the following season with League newcomers Kidderminster Harriers, before joining League of Wales side Rhyl as player/coach in July 2001. By December he was back in the Football League, linking up with his former manager Brian Horton at Port Vale. He played there for 18 months, before spending one season with Conference side Accrington Stanley, and retiring in 2004. In July 2006, he joined the coaching staff of Southport.
the masters final (http://www.mastersfootball.com/grandfinalmasters_2006.htm) will be:
Rangers - Newcastle - Chelsea - Spurs - Wolves - Leicester - Leeds- LFC
thanks for the info on our 7-3 win

2 came when we were a man down, after Mike Marsh had been sin binned for looking at Jeff Winter in a funny way.
Jeff Winter hasn't changed then?
that explains it..the real score was 7-1 then..that`s more like it :handshake:
Didn't see it - tho caught a highlight on SkySports News this morning of a cracker from molby.
couple of keep ups and then a cheeky little lob by the big man. Class

What Molby runs now. He used to stay on the half way line pinging passes in his playing days.
You're just a fat xabi alonso,
You're just a fat xabi alonso,
You're just a fat xabi alonso!

We conceded loads but scored more - it was like Keegan was in charge!!
Kennedy openly stated our startegy was to push forward as a team and score with every attack. Rules state you must have a striker in the opposition's half so instead of keeping a defender back to mark him, we attacked fully 5 against 4 and scored nearly every time - left their "poacher" with a half to himself ... amazing stuff. We had an average age of 4 and a half years older than the City team and gave them a lesson on how to play football
Jan's interview was class afterwards - guy's a legend
Jan's goal in the final was absolutely sublime. Did anyone go? It was held at the MEN Arena, so it will have been even sweeter to win it in their back yard...even though it's not really that important.
