I'm trying not to, but I'm starting to get very excited by the new season....let's pray we're not that badly affected by injuries (we were quite lucky on that front last year, tbh)

18.5 mill for carrick is a joke. I thought e got stiffed on the Pennant price, but Utd have paid well over the odds for a just above average player.

I know that Keane is practically irreplaceable by anyone other than Stevie G, but Carrick?? Even with Scholes back, they're still lacking in midfield...

Just because he's gone to United for some wholly-infalted fee, shouldn't deter from the fact that he's STILL a poor-man's Alonso.

This is nothing to worry about.

I think it is 18.5 million depending on appearances etc...

Wildly over-priced. I can't see a central midfield of Carrick/Scholes scaring too many teams. While I do think a central midfield of Alonso/Sissoko scares the shit out of most teams! :)

Not a great surprise. Ferguson has made some major clangers in the transfer market in recent years and often pays over the odds. Veron being the best example.

Carrick will be okay I expect but not amazing and Scholes isn't the player he was. United still need serious work done on their midfield and now need someone to score goals as well.

I've wanted to say that for a long time, but haven't had the guts to post it in case I cursed it:D

We were quite lucky with our injuries last season. The spine of our side was intact pretty much throughout.

Fingers crossed for more of the same

Carrick's a decent player and he'll definetely improve the Man Ure midfield significantly, however completely over-priced... but if you have the money to splurge on such a player... why not.

Can't help feeling that Ferguson's ina bit of a panic now... I don't believe Man Ure have approached this transfer from anything short of desperation.

I think Carrick is by no means a replacement for Keane, and man Ure will have to change their midfield style somewhat... Carrick is no enforcer so who ever partners him is going to have to get stuck in as well... so I don't think a partnership with Scholes will work for them.

Selling Carrick also weakens Spurs... they might chuckle at the fee and the fact they've signed Zakora to replace him... but in essence they've sold their best cental midfielder and replaced him with someone who's got zero remiership experience and so represents a risk. I don't believe any of the other midfielders they possess are as good as Carrick currently is.

In essence it's all good for us... Spurs may be weakened and although Man Ure have got a good player it may not paper over the other growing problems their team is experiencing. In fact I'd say Man Ure are displaying exactly the same symptoms and problesm as we did at the start of the 90's... too many great players finishing their career at the same time and the new recruits not of a high enough standard.

Man Ure will not finish as high this season as they did last season.
