How's about this - an all-English Liverpool starting line-up with subs...I've obviously been a bit liberal with positioning, and it would have to be a Carling Cup match, but I think it's interesting that it's a "possibility" :D
Carson
O'Donnell Hobbs Carragher Warnock
Pennant Gerrard Mannix Anderson
Fowler Crouch
Subs:
Danny Guthrie
James Smith
Neil Mellor
Adam Hammill
David Martin
Excellent! I'm sure we could sneak Finnan in at right back too - given his rather tenuous 'Irishness'. :D

What? You mean the fact that he was born and raised in Dublin to Irish parents?
It's very hard to think of Daniel O'Donnell being English.
Wasn't Finnan actually born in Ireland? :D
That is enough for me!!!! ;)

Finnan was born in Limerick, but was raised in London as far as I know. I don't think he has Dublin connections. Knowing many English kids born to Irish parents, like them, he probably grew up going to Irish dancing classes and learning the bodhran or tin whistle. He decided to play for Ireland, so that must mean he feels Irish.
I wouldn't call him English, in the same way that I wouldn't call Didi Hamann's kids English.
It's funny you have started this thread - i was just talking to a collegue about how rafa has added a few British players to the team, plus Finnan who I wouldn't class as a foreigner(was he born in england?) - I'm quite pleased by it as we have strengthed the squad with players with prem experience(bellamy/Pennant) or potential (Hobbs/Anderson)
British/Irish X1
Carson
Finnan - JC - Hobbs - Warnock
Pennant - Gerrard - Potter - Bellamy
Fowler - Crouch
Thoughts?

Do you think the English know what it means to queue for 5 hours in the Donegal rain to eventually have a cup of tea made by the man himself?

He was neither born in Dublin or raised there. He was born in Limerick but moved to London at about two years old and was brought up in London. I take it you've never heard him talk then? ;)

I was wrong but I'd hardly call his Irishness "tenuous".
I was sure he had a Dublin accent but I accept my mistake gracefully prickface.

 Gracefully? You think that's graceful? :haha:
Calm down laddo, I was only winding up our Irish readers (I'm 5/8 'Irish' myself, blood-wise).
Hardly graceful Peter - please calm down and refrain from insulting other members!!!! :)
Cheers.

I was 100% kidding.
The joke was supposed to lie in the contrast between my tone/words and the last word.
Am I the only one who found that funny?
Sorry Peter - I think it was the lack of any smilie that made the tone sound like you were genuinely angry!!! :D

I found it very funny. :D
I found it amazing that prickface is in anyone's vernacular.

I find it amazing you're adopting that overly patronising 'holier than thou' approach, whislt you have that juvenile wankfest as your avatar.

I never get angry on internet forums.
Sullen, childish, stubborn, patronising - the list of things I do 'get' is very long but thankfully angry isn't one of them.

No more!
the crap rolls out your mouth again
haven't changed, your brain is still gelatin
little whispers circle around your head
why don't you worry about yourself instead

I actually laughed out loud at that, so it wasn't lost on everyone.
Having to use smilies all the time is irritating. I told someone to "Shut your face" a week or two back, didn't include a smilie, and thus nearly lost the site a visitor. Cue smilie: :D
By the way - someone put Potter in above, but didn't he leave us recently? I'd have Anderson in instead anyway.
I hope potter has left us as he's not fit for purpose.
As for smilies - i think their ghey! However unless i'm offending someone i know can laff at it off I try and put them in.
When everyone gets to know the style of each other a bit more then we can use them a bit less 'cept kaip :whatever:

I don't think Potter is in Rafa's plans anymore...
A mediocre player. I guess the silver lining from all his appearances last season was that it showed Rafa was willing to give these young boys a chance...
