I can't believe the season starts this weekend for Football League clubs...it comes round quicker every year.

Anyway I usually like to have a divisional accumulator (in the four top English leagues) so I've only got a few days to make up my mind. As I get older I fall more and more out of touch with the lower leagues, so am struggling to pick teams out for League's One and Two. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

For the Premiership I've picked us (6/1), naturally, and I'm going with Birmingham to bounce straight back up and win the 'Championship' at 9/2.

Another bet to look out for is us to beat Chelsea inside 90 minutes in the Charity Shield at 21/10. Chelsea will almost certainly go with an under-strength team and I fancy us strongly to beat them to set the tone for the rest of the season.

If you walked into a betting shop and asked for a price, they'd give you one. A price, that is.

We'd probably be around 11/8 to win the home game, and maybe 3s to win away ...which equates to around 9.5/1 for the double.

I reckon if you asked for a price they'd probably give you 10s or thereabouts, which is a decent bet.

Shaggy, I'm no expert but for League One Nottingham Forest seem to be the clear favorites, but there are decent sides in that league. The three sides that were relegated from the Championship last season will all be desperate to go back up (Brighton/Crewe/Millwall). My value bet in that League is Swansea at 14/1, they were unlucky to miss out in the play off final last year.

In League Two Swindon look a decent bet with Dennis Wise there as manager and talk of Paul Ince maybe joining him as a coach. Wycombe are a good side as well, but like I said I'm no expert!!!

Best price for LFC for the EPL is 8/1......(Coral)

Cheers mate. Yeah I've got Forest, Swansea and Crewe in mind...very tough to choose one though.

Didn't Wycombe start last season with a 20 odd match unbeaten run, but tailed off really badly? Good point about Swindon. I've considered Hartlepool too, but based on little other than they were a very tidy side not so long ago.

Crewe are one of those yo-yo clubs, they always seem to breeze through League 1, yet aren't strong enough to consistantly remain in the Championship.

Yes, they were flying at one stage, but tailed off towards the end of the season. They’ve got a couple of ‘old heads’ there in Robert Lee and Tommy Mooney so there is plenty of experience there.

Are you going for an outright win in the accumulator or an each way bet??

Outright win, although probably a Lucky 15 as opposed to a straight acca. I've never won one of these bets before. Three out of four in a Lucky 15 was the closest I came. My fourth selection, Bristol Rovers, ensured I never got carried away by finishing twenty fucking first in their division.

You're convincing me about Wycombe. Mooney should be amongst the goals again (saw him on SSN t'other day notching a couple in some friendly). They're 12/1 with my bookie, about sixth in the betting.

It's always hard to pick the winners of the four divisions, all the best with your selections!

I'll have to put my head down now to finalise my selections........

Scottish league division 1 - St Johnstone or Gretna. Don't think you'll get much value in either though.

Gretna odds on at 10/11 and St Johnstone best price is 4/1.

Went with Liverpool (6/1), Birmingham (9/2), Swansea (10/1) and Wycombe (12/1). Fiver straight accumulator to return twenty seven and a half thousand bastard pounds! i.e no chance.

Anyone had a 'fixed odds' footy bet today?

Normally I leave it alone at the start of the season, to allow "form" to develop etc...but after a very good World Cup/Wimbledon my account is flush so I've had a dabble.

Just a fiver on these TEN results (normally go for six or seven)...

Birmingham
Bristol City
Millwall
Forest
Swansea
Darlington
MK Dons
Rangers
Gretna
St Johnstone

To return £390!

Anyone know the best odds on Fowler to be top scorer in the Prem this year? :D

Shaggy

100/1 with BlueSquare!

Rich

That would be one hell of a bet if that came in!

Fowler would need what? 26-27 league goals to beat Henry to the title.

MrMichael
06-08-06, 09:46 AM
I'm gonna go for it I think, I like an outside bet and with no Horseface, no Owen, Sheva at very short odds and Henry surely due for a season where he actually gets injured occasionally I'm going to have a tenner on Fowler. I'm a hopeless romantic anyway, its going to happen, you'll see

To be fair though I do have to admit to having had a fiver on Crouch to be top scorer in the World Cup (I was going for the Klose theory, forgot to factor in how rubbish England would be like) :shake:

I went for a 4 draws accumulator in the Championship and I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't get any correct!!

Better luck next week hopefully...............

I agree it is quite tough. And as you mentioned it might be better to wait a few weeks into the season to allow form to develop, but I can’t resist having a litter flutter when Saturday comes……………..

Bloody hell that is very ambitious.

Fancy Luton to win at Wednesday.

Can't see Blackpool beating Forest, who got off to a winning start on Saturday.

Cheltenham won at Swansea at the weekend so they'll be confident at home to Tranmere.

Crewe is a brave one too at "moneybags" and promotion favourites Donny Rovers.

Good luck anyway mate. I need Hull, Huddersfield, Yeovil, Swindon and Walsall tonight for a nice bet up.

I've found odds of 6/5 on Valencia.

Very generous IMO.

Even money mate, but I don't really "shop around" for prices...just use the one on-line bookie. Still, I thought evens was a great price. Surely Valencia will win there?

Thats what i'm thinking.

Although some spanish teams struggle away from home in europe.

But highly unlikely to happen to Valencia...

Fuckin Valencia! (Although The Reds let me down too)

What I didn't know before putting the bet on, was that Salzburg apparently play on a bastard artificial pitch!
