Manchester United are reportedly set to turn their attentions to Liverpool striker target Dirk Kuyt to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez has been linked with the 25-year-old Holland international for virtually the entire summer as he looks to completely overhaul his striker options at Anfield, following Fernando Morientes' exit and Djibril Cisse set to move on when his broken leg heals.

Craig Bellamy has already signed from Blackburn to join Peter Crouch and Robbie Fowler as the club's attacking options, but Kuyt was set to be the icing on the cake. However with the Reds stalling on paying the

Rafa won't up his bid, if Kowt wants to go to SCUM, let him. He won't succeed there IMO, he will be doing a similar job to Rooney, whereas SCUM need someone to put the ball in the net.

I dont normally criticise Moores and Parry but this Kuyt thing is doing my head in.

FFS if we want him why dont we just buy him. Apparently there is only a 2 million difference in valuation. I suspect that will now increase if the scum are after him.

He's shown before too with his 'I'd love to play for Newcastle' comments that he'll jump ship for practically anyone who shows a bit of interest.

He's ginger. It's in their psyche.

Strange... we need someone to put the ball in the net as well.

You're right about Rafa not upping his bid though - history proves that!

Yeah, we got Pennant with EXACTLY what we were prepared to pay for him didn't we?

Wouldn't suprise me if the scum did get him, we mess around far too long on transfers...why can't we just go out and buy someone instead of all this long drawn out rubbish...which eventually leads to us losing out....Simao and Alves are prime examples of this!

Then again, thank god he didn't end up with Simao - I'm sure most of us would of given him a good slaggin' on here!!! :D

I think the problem with Dirk Kuyt is that while Rafa 'rates' him per se, he probably does not feels that Kuyt is someone that the club can't do without. That is what I thought all along, and fits in with the info coming out from Elisha_Scott and others; Rafa will only pay that 10 million if he can offload a couple of his fringe players (Kromkamp, Traore, Dudek, Le Tallec etc). RW was much more of a priority than a second striker (especially after the arrival of Craig Bellamy), so there is no way Rafa is going to spend 'big' again if he can't get rid of a couple of his own.

Man U are not tracking Kuyt despite the paper talk - From what I know he has been offered around to other clubs as their is quite a lot of interest in him. At the moment Man U are not quite struggling for cash but they are not in a position to release another large payment. I'd look out for Spurs to be honest with you

Why can't they afford 12m. They got 10m for RVN, 10m for that kid who went to chelsea. They've only bought Carrick, so they haven't even touched this years transfer budget.

I'm well sure that they have a pounds tucked away.

MUtd will be in for a striker and why couldn't it be Kuyt?? I have no idea how much cash they have, but it's gotta be more than us. Wouldn't be surprised to see them go for sumeone from Madrid (real) considering that RVN was sold to them. Who is surplus there now? Surely you couldn't keep Ronaldo, Robinho, Raul, Baptista, Guti, RVN, Cassano all happy and playing in the same squad. One of them, obviously not Ruud would have to leave. All are capable of playing as strikers.
