loved the way he eulogised about paul robinson's european experience that neither carson or kirkland possess. obviously it was a different kirkland who played for us against galatasay in 2002 and again for us in th uefa cup and in the successful champions league campaign, albeit he was poor for the most part. as well as that someone could have told me there are two scott carsons with the one who played for us against juventus in a champions league quater final having fallen by the wayside to be replaced by the guy at charlton, and they look so similar.

other amusing fact was he didnt want garet barry at left back coz he wanted him in the position he plays at his club, and goes for phil neville who begrudgingly aint bad as a holding midfielder but is a cack left back.

the fact that hes englands manager is a joke
sorry
so many other coaches out there with so much more experience
and knowledge.
you have to wonder how he got the job.
or was it a case of so many turning it down due to your press

Mumsafan
07-02-07, 01:00 PM
I think it was mainly due to the fact that anyone who might be considered up for the job and English still hasn't had the relevant experience. I see him as a caretaker manager really until the likes of Pearce can take over. Step 2 by the FA has been taken making Pearce Under 21 manager.

PeachSalsa

They need to replace him as soon as possible. He's shit. Hoping he makes me eat my words though.

dww
07-02-07, 01:45 PM
I didn't think he was that bad a choice. He is a good coach and showed willingness to bring in people with experience like Venebles to help him. However since he has been in the job he seems to have degenerated into a spineless moron, who attempts to pander to media opinion and has no clear vision for the team.

The England squad has been proved time and time again to be full of players who believe their own hype. We need someone who has a clear pattern of play they want to impose and who is willing to upset players if needs be.

It makes you wonder how much influence behind the scenes men at the FA have with team selection. Or is McLaren, really that shit! :D

I hate McClaren. I used to like England and wanted us to win, and got upset when we didn’t win at major tournaments. I was told, when I was very very young, that I’d soon grow out of it and they were right – I have. However, I do think the likes of Sven and McClaren – insipid individuals who couldn’t inspire a cat – have accelerated my dismay for the national side.

I actually hope England lose tonight, and lose convincingly. COME ON SPAIN!

International football is shit. It’s a shit, uninteresting sideshow. It’s mainly for the likes of Rochdale and Wycombe fans….lower league supporters (nothing wrong with that) who never get the chance to follow their team abroad and/or cheer for top class players. Oh, and the Welsh. :D

I honestly couldn't give a fig about England, I only get remotely interested during major finals, but that has more to do with a lack of domestic football, rather than wanting to see the England team do well.

I also hate the majority of Chav, cockney, Ingerland Fans, with their bald heads, tattoos and bad behaviour. Fuck off!

Fully agree. Unfortunately I had the pleasure of supporting England before I supported Liverpool (Location etc.) and I too am dismayed by the absolute farce that goes on with the FA and all those c**tfucks. McLaren is an ABSOLUTE joke and it's a real pity our nation can't aspire for the best manager there is but the one who sucked the right arses. It's a joke.

I mean, JUST FUCKING LOOK AT HIM!!!! ARGH makes my blood boil!

It only *really* hit me last summer.

I watched fat Frank walk up to take that penalty against Portugal, and every bone In my body was urging him to miss.

Now, I genuinely couldn't care less about England.

I'd like to see Crouch score tonight, and i hope Stevie plays well, but I'll be cheering on Spain.

I hope 'we' dont qualify for Euro 2008.

I'd rather England win than lose, but all in all I'm not that bothered. Used to be when I was younger, it was after Euro 2000 I stopped giving a shit. I find it impossible to want players like Lampard to do well having wished him every possible failure all season.

BRING BACK TAYLOR!!!!!!

Des Walker knocks a misplaced pass to John Barnes:

Taylor: "Ooooh, fucking........do I not like that!"

Poland win the ball, break and score.

Taylor: "What a fucking ball. What a ball, eh, from Des to Barnesy. What a fucking......it was our possession!"

Phil Neal: "I know."

Taylor: "It was from our free kick. We've come square, and the ball... Des and Barnesy, eh? Fucking ball, eh? You can talk till you're fucking blue in the face, can't you?"

Phil Neal: "Yes boss."

The game kicks off again:

Taylor: "Come on. Bigger, bigger."

Another misplaced pass.

Taylor: "We've done that fucking.......CAN WE NOT KNOCK IT? They've done everything that we told them not to do. Everything that we told them not to do."

And then there was the encounter against the Dutch....

Taylor: "Linesman, linesman, what sort of thing is happening here? You know it, you know it, don’t you? Absolutely disgraceful."

Linesman mutters something.

Taylor: "Linesman, linesman, that’s disgrace… Hells Bells!"

Koeman hasn’t even scored the free kick yet. In the gantry, Brian Moore is first to cotton on to what’s about to happen.

"He’s gonna flip one. He’s gonna flip one. HE’S GONNA FLIP ONE!"

Koeman has scored.

Taylor: "I’ll tell you, they don’t fucking deserve.....fucking.........that is absolutely shocking."

Taylor: "We’ll have to get Wrighty on shortly."

Phil Neal: "We’ll have to give Wrighty a go."

Taylor turns his attention once more to the beleaguered linesman.

"You know we’ve been cheated, don’t you."

Linesman motions him back to his technical area.

"I have a metre. I have a metre. You know. It’s alright."

Linesman is getting fed up. Goes to report Taylor, who pleads for mercy.

"I won’t say anything else. Come on, don’t. But I’m allowed to stay in the metre."

Linesman lets him off with a warning. However, the peace bond is soon broken...

"Even if he doesn’t see it as a penalty, he has to go. You know that. I know you know it, so......and then the fella scores the free kick."

A sudden outbreak of bonhomie from Taylor:

"You can’t say anything. I know you can’t say anything. I know that."

Again it’s short-lived:

"But, you see at the end of the day, I get the sack. Will you say to the fella, the referee has got me the sack."

"Thank him ever so much for that, won’t you?"

Astonishingly that was all he ever said throughout his tenure as England's number two. Astonishing. 'Inept' doesn't even get close.

I once had a telephone conversation with Phil Neal, and there was a brief spell of small-talk. I asked him what he thought of the match the previous night (can't remember what it was). In a bid to sound like a clever sod, he said:

"*insert name of whatever player he was talking about* was brilliant wasn't he...a superfluous performance."

McLaren is a knob, plain and simple.

Anyone with one working eye can see that you won't get the best out of Lampard unless you let him mooch around the 18 yard box looking for a deflection whilst players like Makelele and Essien are doing all the work behind you.

Letting Lampard do what he wants in a 4-4-2 is holding Gerrard back from playing his natural game and that's unforgiveable when he's one of your two best players.

McLaren thought he had balls by finishing Beckham's career but now he needs to show he can drop players who don't fit into the system. If he was any kind of manager he'd put Fwank on the bench and beg Paul Scholes to come back. Scholsey is a bit more of what I like to call a "team player" and he worked well with Stevie a few years back although people like to forget this and say Gerrard's never had a good game in an England shirt.

But yes, McLaren is a prize donkey and I was shocked although pleasantly surprised when Stuart Downing wasn't given the captaincy.

Stevie was the best player on the pitch. And where was he at the beginning of the second half? Where was Fat Frank? At least Stevie will be rested for the next game. Lampard might as well be rested since he didn't do shit.

I must admit I'm loving his tenure so far - it's rapidly becoming an embarassment. Apart from 5 minutes at the start of each half the type of football on display last night was strictly non-league 'hit and hope'. I'm sure Spain didn't expect that - it was pure genius on McClarens behalf!
