I honestly take it as a compliment. He knows that Arsenal and Man U have significant weaknesses.

Lest we forget...

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has told Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger to focus on his own side's poor form.

Mourinho is becoming increasingly annoyed at comments from the Frenchman in the media about his Blues team.

"I think he is one of these people who is a voyeur," said the Portuguese coach. "He likes to watch other people.

"There are some guys who, when they are at home, have a big telescope to see what happens in other families. He speaks, speaks, speaks about Chelsea."

"I don't know if he wants my job, I don't know. He loves Chelsea."

And they are potentially fighting for first place but I still fancy more the way Arsenal and Manchester United play football."

I have to agree with Mourinho, except for that part. I quite fancy our chances this season; we will be a real threat.

maureen is a muppet, but there's no need to get into knots over it.

i personally feel we're still some ways from being a top side, but we're getting there.

it took us the better part of a decade to fal off that perch,we need to be alittle patient before we get back on.

He's running scared of us. Where it mattered most we beat the Chavs and the poor bastard is still hurting. Let him carry on writing us off. Deep down he knows we are a threat with Rafa in-charge

I genuinely believe that we're the only team in the country who doesn't fear them. Maybe its coz we've been so far behind that we've had nothing to lose when playing them - as we've been the underdogs each time. However, this season is different - people are now expecting us to challenge them - the players are expecting to challenge them.......

Can we do it? We may get closer - but I still believe over a whole season that the sheer quality/strength of their squad will be too much for us.:miffed:

But hey - it's a funny old game - so you just never know......

....They are very competitive, it's very difficult to beat them. If they score a goal before you score it's very difficult to change it because they defend really well with 11 players ......

Eh, sounds familiar, like his own bloody team in fact...

Leave out the kidology but is this guy a twat ? Don't he realise that he's just giving us the baton to beat the fuck out of him ? :) Imagine the lads hearing these comments, would make them more motivated.

The next step is Chelsea buying their own league to themselves and naming it the world series.

completely agree with you mate, our matches with them have by and large been very competitive and apart from one game they have never overrun/overawed us.

This season will be the one where the Chavs and ourselves break away from the pack.

I think the Community Shield is going to be a very BIG game for us and Chavski. We really need to stamp our authority on the season at the first opportunity and that starts with the Community Shield. Of course, offer me the choice between 3 points against Sheff Utd or a win against the Chavs and I'll have the 3 points ; but in terms of psychology, the community Shield is vital.
We need to beat them, we need to build our confidence which has increased in the shape of Bellamy and Pennant. We need to show them that we can play, we need to bully them and subdue them. We need to dent their confidence and plant a seed of doubt into their heads. We're as good as them, none of their players set the World Cup on fire, they're not that special, let's go out and get at them.
They have benefitted from very good starts to the last 2 seasons, matching the unbeatable Arsenal at the start of 2004/5 and then sprinting away with it last season. A 3-0 gubbing by Boro last season showed that they are vulnerable and that is what we need to exploit.
We're going about our business quietly but I'm looking forward to a really big statement being sent out in the Community Shield.

Let the gubbing commence :lfc:

Hold on a minute.

Are you trying to draw comparisons between Andriy Shevchenko and Jermaine fcukin Pennant?

Our "bosman" was Fabio Aurelio, theirs was the German captain Michael Ballack, one of the best players in the World. There's a smidgeon of a difference mate.

And we never once bid for Fernando Torres.

I agree with you that Mourinho's murmurings are those of a slightly threatened manager, but let's not get carried away here...

In terms of transfer dealings, they operate on a different stratosphere to us.

In a different stratosphere. In.

Anyway, so what? They can keep their thirty million pound veterans. Real Madrid operated "in a different stratosphere" to Rafa's Valencia and we know what happened there two seasons out of three.

Ryan
02-08-06, 11:35 AM
Their "thirty million pound veteran" will score 20+ goals for them this season, something which they didn't have previously from any of their strikers.

Add that to the copious amount of goals Lampard, Terry, Robben, Cole and NOW Ballack will score, and they could yet be an even more formidable force.

They shouldn't be written off because their manager's a ballroot, and because they've overpaid for players.

Shaggy
02-08-06, 11:38 AM
No-one's writing them off but by the same token no-one (save for one or two idiots) is hoisting the white flag just because they've gone and spent a fortune on some ageing megastars.

G_Man
02-08-06, 11:38 AM
Chavchenko is a better player than Pennant, but, I think Rafa will get more from adding Pennant to our team than Maureen will get from adding Chavchenko to Chavski's "team".
Chavchenko is winding down his career and cashing in on his reputation, fair play to him, I hope he takes the Chavs for all he can get, but I don't think he'll have the same drive and the same desire he had for Milan. He'll take some time to adapt to the premiership too.
Pennant is yet to reach his prime or fulfill his potential and is playing for his boyhood club in the league he is already accustomed to.
In a direct comparisson, Chavchenko wins hands down, but I think we'll get more out of Penant.

its not a battle of money nor players of world class ability, its a physcological battle,The smidgeon of difference is all in the mind ,mate,Its not what the player has offered in the past its his ability in the future, can't you see shevchenko, ballack, roberto carlos, all world class players of the present/past
yes......

Pennant ,bellamy, ok not world class dont even go there ,,,but the ability to play and deliver and give the same quality for a less price..
its a battle of the mind.

since benitez has taken over the reins at anfield, look what he has done tactically, strenghened the team and also brought the silverware.
dont compare mourhino, with RAFA, he has just had the ready cash to buy the best and lengthen the bench.with SWP and the rest of the reserve team, were by we at liverpool develop the potential out of the players

Mind games and all that stuff but maureen doesn't realise that he's a twat ... He's giving us more motivation to beat them.

I actually think he has aimed this quote at other teams. While we don't have a forward who looks a consistant goal scoring threat any team that has a real go at us will have a chance of getting points as we have not yet shown we can get enough goals from other sources. I think Mourinho is looking to convince other teams that our lack of attacking options gives them hope.

If we have a poor start then this may well come to be seen as a very shrewd thing to have said. If however we can continue the form of the end of last season when we started o score a little more freely then he will look foolish and all he will have done is give us extra motivation as you say.

I want the Community Shield to be now.

There's no way I'd trade that nothing trophy for 3 points (away) even if it does mean humiliation by Chelsea.

the psychological effect of a 4 nil defeat to Chelski might cost more than 3 points in the long term...

I think it'd serve to drive us on because that's how I see our team. They don't give up. I hope Rafa plays all the kids in the CS just to piss Jose off LOL.
Nah, honestly as long as we make it into the CL and we start off with a win at Bramall Lane (and it's sunny cos I always freeze to death there) I couldn't care less about the Shield.

Bob
04-08-06, 05:32 AM
Whilst i couldn't care less about the CS i hope it's tight at least! The physiological effect on players can not be under minded. But Rafa turns traores into winners so this is a mute point ;)

I've always been of the opnion a good drubbing/competitive game in pre-season/first game of the season spurs (not pun intended) you on to better things. Added motivation et al.
