Rijkaard to leave Barcelona at the end of the season?

Frank Rijkaard is reportedly ready to quit Barcelona at the end of this season.

The Dutch coach has been hurt this week by the attack from Samuel Eto'o and polls in local media suggesting a split between fans over their support for him during the row.

The Cameroon international criticised Rijkaard for claiming the striker didn't want to play in last weekend's game against Racing Santander.

Rijkaard is contracted until 2009 but the deal carries a clause that allows him to leave should he wish and now, according to the media in Spain, this week's events have convinced him his time at the Nou Camp is over.

The country's press suggest the Dutchman is distraught at the way fans have sided with Eto'o and that he misses the influence of former assistant Henk ten Cate, who left for Ajax at the end of last season.

DiarioSport claims the two top names to replace Rijkaard next season are Getafe coach Bernd Schuster and Johan Cruyff's recommendation, Marco van Basten.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

While the first part sounds plausable, I fail to see how a move would mean he missed Henk ten Cate any less.

This isn't a big blow for Barca.

They've got a balanced squad of extremely gifted footballers.

Hiddink, Mourinho or another will step in and win trophies...

I don't think they'll go for Mourinho. Their fans loathe him.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Mourinho? Yeah right. Their fans would absolutely flip if he went there which is why it wont happen. And Hiddink failed at Real Madrid, not a chance Barca would go there imo. He also won **** all in 3 years at Valencia.

                I know.

I was just pointing out there are plenty of available managers out there who could do as well as Frank Rijkaard at Barcelona.

                  Definitely.

How great was that Milan team in the late 1980s. Rijkaard, Van Basten, Gullit, Baresi etc...

A real shame we never played them in the European Cup. Potentially awesome match.

I watched them when Serie A first come on Channel 4 and Van Basten amazed me. The rest you mention where obviously great players aswell but Van Basten I loved watching, such a shame he had to retire so early

Actually cant remember if it was Channel 4 live or whether ive just seen a load of video's as it was ages ago, but anyway, he was just incredible.

this has been going on in the spanish press all season long, from the start of the season they claimed he would step down after it, so i think the eto'o thing is only to add fuel on the fire...

Well, there are two threads about there being no news about Mascherano.
