I supposed the new Vieira has to do something to justify his salary, even if it is getting changed in and out of his kit. He is fast becoming the new Bogarde for sitting on his arse doing nothing.

I would expect that with a few obvious changes that this will be the team for the Haifa game next week. Hopefully they will put on a good performance.

Le Chacal
04-08-06, 07:36 PM
What are you on?...We all know he's not good enough for us but blaming him for his salary is simply ludicrous. He was loaned a couple of times which means he's not only here to sit on the bench and get his wages. Just to remind you, the club offered him this contract.

andyinswinton
04-08-06, 07:45 PM
I'm not blaming him for his salary at all. It was a tounge in cheek comment that he is getting well paid to put on his kit and then take it off again because he won't be getting on the pitch.

We have satellite but that is too expensive and I have applied for wireless with a local company but I have to wait till they expand as their service is full up. Other wireless services are shite though in terms of bandwidth etc.

All our telephone lines etc are owned by Telstra here and everyone hates them. Our whole system is a joke and there has been petitions etc from my area about broadband but still nothing has been done. It's a farce.

Oh well, at least the 5-0 has no direct effect on our future. Get a load of this!

ROONEY AND SCHOLES BOTH OFF IN FRIENDLY WIN

Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes were both sent off during Manchester United's 3-1 friendly win over FC Porto on Friday.

The duo had both scored before Rooney was shown a red card in the 42nd minute for allegedly elbowing Pepe.

Scholes was dismissed for a second booking on 68 minutes but United added a third through Ole Gunnar Solksjaer before Porto scored a late consolation.

United had suffered a blow before the game in Amsterdam when Rio Ferdinand had to pull out with an ankle injury.

And United manager Sir Alex Ferguson now faces an anxious wait to see whether Rooney and Scholes will be banned for his side's first Premiership game of the season against Fulham on 20 August.

If Dutch referee Ruud Bossen notes the incidents in his report to the Dutch FA, and they pass it on to their English counterparts, the pair will almost certainly be suspended.

Rooney was also sent off in his last competitive match, for England in their World Cup quarter-final defeat by Portugal on 1 July.

He was being watched against Porto by new England coach Steve McClaren who is preparing to announce his squad for his first game in charge, against Greece on 16 August.

Ferdinand was on the United team sheet but landed heavily on his right ankle during the warm-up and was left out by Ferguson.

The incidents completely overshadowed new signing Michael Carrick's first game for United but he made an impressive debut.

Carrick's corner was rifled home by Scholes on the edge of the area for United's first goal before Rooney's audacious chip made it 2-0.

Solskjaer slammed home a third when United were down to nine men before Pepe's late reply for Porto.

The game was United's first in a four-team tournament that also features Ajax and Inter Milan.

They've really gone to town on the match report...

Liverpool completed their pre-season preparations in the worst possible fashion by crashing to an emphatic 5-0 defeat against FSV Mainz in Germany on Friday night.

With next week's Champions League qualifier in mind Rafa Benitez started with a strong looking side but following a series of substitutions a sensational five goal second half blast from the hosts consigned the Reds to a humiliating loss.

Goals from Feulner, Damm, Jovanovic, Amri and Pupalovic did the damage on a night Liverpool will want to quickly forget.

Teams

Liverpool: Carson, Traore, Hyypia (captain), Carragher, Kromkamp, Zenden, Gerrard, Alonso, Pennant, Crouch, Bellamy. Subs - Dudek, Peltier, Hobbs, Paletta, Riise, Anderson, Diao, Sissoko, Garcia

FSV Mainz 05: Wache, Gerber, Demirtas, Feulner, Noveski, Diakite, Friedrich, Pekovic, Azaouash, Rose, Damm. Subs - Amri, Banouas, Babatz, Jovanovic, Amri, Wiegelt, Gunesch, Vrancic, Vrancic, Pupalovic, Ischdonat

I still think that if most of last year's first 11 (especially back 5) play next week with the usual instructions, we'll be ok.

It's a wake-up call though to people who think that our defense will definitely be better than last season.

Most of our better players have only really just started their fitness training due to the world cup, wouldn't be a good idea to give them long run-outs.
whilst i agree with what you're saying perhaps those players should have played sooner. against kaiserslautern?

Haven`t seen the game, so for those who did..
Did any of our defenders perform tonight?
Was it a collective shocker, or can we take some solace out of Carra, or any of the others?

the 5-0 scoreline should answer that question.

Sven isn`t in the same league as Rafa :)

i know what you mean mate despite it not looking like i do but 20 mins in that game, like luis got, before being subbed with the injury, could've been good for them and us.

perhaps i only feel like tis in light of tonights result. a knee jerk reaction perhaps!:oh:

On a night like tonight it`s hard to laugh

I thought Rafa, being the perfectionist he is would have been relaxed for the camera after Kaiserslauten game, but privately might have given the team a roasting..God only knows what he`s had to say to them in the dressing room tonight :shake:

it sure won't have been pretty.

the kaiserslautern game on staurday could be excused because it was 3 mistake by an extremely inexperienced player that led to their goals.

tonight is a whole different story though.

So if I`m right (& I`d appreciate others opinions here)..then this pre-season was an experiment on Rafa`s part to give the younger players some 1st team experience (albeit friendlies) alongside the new recruits, so that the majority of the 1st 11 including the world cuppers could have more recovery time..

The hope being that there would be enough potential + ability, to roll over some lesser european clubs (no offence)..as opposed to the teams playing in the amsterdam tournament..so that we could start the season with good morale, hope for the premiership fixtures & the european campaign?

perhaps but it's a risky strategy and one that seems to have backfired.

Very much so. Its as if our defenders were expecting Mainz to give them space. Doddering on the ball, silly passes. Their team had pace up front and exploited total confusion at the back. Carson had an absolute mare. Sorry but that defensive display ranks up with Charlton away last season.

If it makes you feel better didn't we win 12 out of the next 14 after the Charlton game!

Imagine all the KTers going nuts right now :haha:

:D Here's a good one, "julian" says: "lets end the pain, sack the manager, lets go for O'neil......."

:haha: :haha:

To be fair (as usual!) there are bits of both, some saying it's terrible etc, some saying they don't care.
