What is pretty much our first team just took a 5-0 pasting off Mainz.
Putting my Koptalk hat on, I would just like to say that we are doomed. We're never going to win the league and it's not good enough. We should be whipping these teams. Sack Rafa, he's taken us as far as he can. Sack Parry and Gerrard too :miffed:

I think you must seperate the front 6 from the back 5 here. Jan made a bad mistake for the first, and then Gaby got the ball caught up in his feet for the second, and that's how it stayed until the 86th minute and after Carra and Sami had both gone off.
If the first choice back 5 had conceded 5, then I'd be shitting bricks, but it wasn't.

to be fair despite the "first 11" not doing terribly well tonight it was their first game back together for a while. most of the goals came in the last 3rd of the game when most of them were probably in the shower.

I know the opposition are called Mainz 0-5 but there was no need to take it so literally

It's best to get these things out of the system before the proper stuff starts.
At least results like this don't breed over confidence. It might be a wake up call that will stay with the players for quite a while.

we didnt score that many in this pre-season too, did we?
anyway, i am not about to worry yet because i do not expect to see diao and traore on the same pitch ever again in a competitive match

True it was not the first 11 but it was a pretty decent team we sent out, and remember these are the guys we will be relying on as back up in a long premiership season.
It is a shocking bad result there is no getting away from that, but maybe some good will come from it, i cant think of a better way to give the players notice that the summer holidays are over and its time to knuckle down to buisness, and what we need more than anything is a flying start to the season if we are to outdo romans rubles and this just might be the kick up the ass that does the job............but still its just not good enough we are Liverpool Football Club.

Nice choice of words dirty_sanchez!
I'd rather we had this result in a meaningless game like this than anytime over the next 9 months though.

Traore is meant to be gone isnt he, so he wont give a shit. kronkamp is probably on his way so he wont give a shit. The rest we know and they know can up it when they want and they wont be dis-heartend by it. Sami might be the one to fall out the team if he had a shocker because Paletta has looked lively so far.
It'll be alright on the night, Im not worried.

Iam certainly not worried, think the team gels with thebest eleven on the field. You cant underestimate Reina and how well he commands his defence and allows us to play higher up the pitch. Bellamy has looked lively, paletta looks like he could be a real gem, the only person who should be worriedis jose!
Disapointed by last night, but not overly worried.

nah wednesday is the true test, preseason friendlies mean jack shit.

Hi Tom,
How do you read your tomtalk piece?? see there is an attachment but not surehow to read it?? As another ex KT member who has been there six years was interested to read your article.
Cheers
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw 5-0 on livescore.com last night. I saw highlights on EST this morning and I realized that we should be beaten at least 7-0. What on earth was Carson doing last night?! And Jack Hobbs is ridicioulus at the back...
However, I'm not to worried about the result... You could see that nobody cared... If this was some sort of CL qualifier, we'd destroy them 5-6 :) No doubt :)
I'm slightly nervous about Wednesday but wouldn't say I was worried. Its bad to lose 5-0 to any team at any time, even pre-season, but Rafa will have them ready for Maccabi no doubt.
Question is, when was the last time we were beaten by five clear goals? Even if it was a friendly.

The last time POOL lost 5-0 in a friendly was against Fiorentina in 1995 or 96 I think.
As long as the team forgets about this nightmare score the better.
The Israiles will not be pushovers so lets hope we got our shooting boots on.

I remember we lost 5-1 to Atletico Madrid in a friendly in 87/88 I think. Then we went on to go 29 games unbeaten from the start of the season and we won the title first week in April

RAFA knows it was sort of meaningless but at the same time he does not like losing.
I don't think we'll go 29 games unbeaten from the start of the season but we will give the chavs a damn good run for the title.

It was a tournament in Germany Reds I went over there, it was when Collymore's had just signed whenever that was . Ajax beat us 5-0 , Fiorentina were also in the tournament but I think we beat them.
If we go on a 29 game streak, I'll be more than happy that we got pasted 5-0!!!
Just hope it doesnt have a negative effect on the team before the important Community shield and Sheff U games

It's hilarious watching the RCDNW brigade attempting to put a spin, any positive spin, on this shambles.

To be fair, losing 5 nil against a mediocre german team one week before our 1st game is very worrying.

I agree to a point le chac, but its not the end of the world.
At the end of the day we have had to play players that would normally get 1 or 2 halfs in pre-season because we HAD to rest players. We couldnt have played Xabi, Stevie, Carra etc etc from the start of pre-season. They would have been totaly and utterly fucked come the new season. They needed (and deserved) a long rest after CL 1st rd Qualies, 05/06 season, WC06.
I think i can live with a stuffing off some mediocre german team if it meant that our top players were properly rested in time for the new season.

True - but it's far better to lose a friendly with nothing at stake than to lose 3 points against Sheffield Utd in the first league game. I'm sure that Rafa will use it to his advantage in the build up to the first game. :)

My thoughts exaclty and it moreto the point that hobbs/anderson/whoever areent quite ready and may saveuspoints if he was tempted to bring themon as subs
I'm not too bothered by the eventual result, but bit concerned that there's only been glimpses of decent play by Liverpool in all the friendlies.
We need to improve a lot on Wednesday....
