nah, dont see it.
a lot of the players have been talking about how tough pre season was this year, even doing weights before games.
they will preare for this match like a normal game with plenty of rest beforehand.
i expect to see the real team perform on wed. night.

Im worried, especially after that humiliation last week...Maccabi are not Benfica though and we should go through. Missing the CL would be a disaster and mean the end of our title aspirations for the next 5 years.

You're underestimating the importance of CL nowadays on clubs finances.
Its VITAL.
If we miss it, we'll have no money for transfers next january and summer + we'll have to sell players.

Fitness wise we'll not be up to speed till about 4 games into the season. Comparable to any other pre-season though.

We'll be back to normal soon.

I have the same feeling about this game and I had the feeling before the benfica game.I think we will slip up but playing at a neutral ground for the second game could help us.

Didnt Tom say before the fa cup final that he thought we would lose?

07-08-06, 06:38 PM
I remember your prediction too Tom. Extraordinarily clairvoyant. But I'm hoping that you've used up your special powers.

Personally, I think we'll go through, but Macabi Haifa will think they can nick it after our less than convincing pre-season performances, so it will be a tough match on Wednesday. We need to put our foot down and show them what we're made of.

Read what Carra has to say about it today on the offal.

teams coming countires with large turmoil have a history of doing well and playing above themselves, take note of Italy in the world cup, the conflict in the Leb, will if anything, make the opposition harder to beat, there will be alot of national pride at stake for them.

We're not fit and playing like a bunch of old women.

Don't confuse pre season form with a competitive match - the last few seasons we've been in kick ass pre season form then started the season like a team on tranquilisers - this year will be the reverse starting with the mullering of Haifa tomorrow and Chelski on Sunday.

Howard_lfc
08-08-06, 09:57 AM
It won't be easy but if we cant get past this shower then we simply don't deserve to be in the Champions League.
I haven't got a good feeling about the game like lots of you but I think it's more to do with the importance of the game - quite simply unless we win the CL again this year then this game will give us more money than anything else we achieve.

Time to get serious lads.

So, you're basically saying that having a fcukin dreadful pre-season, and getting thumped 5-0 on our last outing will play to our advantage?

Snigger
08-08-06, 10:04 AM
No I'm not saying that at all, I'm saying that pre season means fuck all as managers try different things and integrate new players whilst the players themselve try to avoid injury. I'm not worried about our pre season form - friendlies mean jack shit.

returning to normality, of course we will qualify for the champions league. i think we will hammer them at anfield which means we can go to th away leg with a weakened team if necessary.

Haifa are pretty poor and we are pretty damn good. forget about pre season, that was a fitness exercise.none of them want to play in the worthless UEFA cup.

I personally think we will get throught reasonably comfortably. We will be under pressure as the opponents will for obvious resons be eagar to put on a good display. However i think our experience, class, the likes of bellamy eager to impress will see us through.
