While the squad has been improved dramatically over the past couple of years, I still think that we need improvment in a few areas thanks to our summer dealings.
Its looking more certain that Kuyt will be here sooner rather than later and hopefully that will address our need for a 20 goal a season striker but should Kromkamp and Dudek go in the opposite direction then we will weaken the current first team squad.
I think we have done well this summer so far. Bellamy could be a great signing, Pennant was desperatly needed on the right hand side and Gonzalez and Aurelio should pep things up on the left. Hopefully Paletta will provide competition at the back although perhaps he is the one for the future given his age and it being his first year in Europe.
Despite those players we have brought in, Cisse, Morientes, Hamman, Barragan and Kirkland have all left with Traore, Dudek, Kromkamp and Pongolle all on the way out before September with other players like Le Tallec and Diao having no future at the club.
Our finances obviously dictate who we can sign and I think we have a manager who won't take any shit in the transfer market when it comes to being held to ransom for players but an injury crisis like we suffered in Rafa's first season could really hit our hopes of winning that Premiership title.
Perhaps we need to look at some loan signings or some short term answers to bolster the squad particulary at right back, central midfield and an experienced goalkeeper just to ensure that we are able to fight on all fronts next season.
I'm really positive about next season and the squad we have assembled but I am fearful should we suffer some long term injuries. I am still hopeful that there will be a few more new faces before the end of the transfer window.
