Not sure anyone could walk into that team, really.
Gerrard would probably get a place ahead of Lampard.
Carra?

Finnan would definitely get in ahead of that wooden one Ferreira.
Gerrard,
Carragher,
Finnan,
Crouch (;))
Crouch over Shevchenko all day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:crackoff:
Surely to fucking God Xabi would get into their team no questions asked?
Shevchenko's ability to hold the ball up, bring others into play, and run loads and loads isn't a scratch on Peter Crouch's. Plus, the big Ukrainian has scored tons of goals against European pub teams uring his years of Champions League competeition, so it all depends on what Mourinho is looking for out of his striker, as to who'd get the nod up front in that duel.

And possibly the best in the world at it, too.

I don't care, any of 'em. Ahead of Essien, Lampard and you could argue ahead of Makelele. They often play five across the middle so there'd have to be room for him.
If you hadn't noticed, Xabi is my favourite player by a distance and, like most Reds, I rate him very very highly. Good enough to fit into any side in the world.
The only one who would get in the team regularly is Gerrard but given the chance they would take a few others. Alonso, Reina, Sissoko and Riise maybe.

well we`ll just have to disagree then. You and perky think makelele is better than alonso and I dont. I happen to think alonso brings far more to the defensive midfield role than makelele. BUT if i just wanted a runner and tackler, I would choose momo ahead of makelele too, as he runs more and tackles more.

I agree with you as to Alonso's qualities, but would Mourinho drop one of his midfield quartet of Lmapard, Makelele, Essien or Ballack to accomodate him? No.

I'm sick to death of you mocking our players. Call yourself a Liverpool supporter?
You wouldn't want to try that down The Arkles on a Saturday night mate. We wouldn't be long sorting you out.

I think Mourinho would take Alonso as, say, a long-term replacement for Makelele without a second's thought.
And I'd be amazed if that bloke with the Matalan coat wouldn't drop Essien to accomodate Xabi. More fool him if he wouldn't.

I think Gerrard, Finnan, Alonso would get 20+ games at Chelsea next season. In all competitions.
Robben doesn't have the same spatial awareness as Harry Kewell either, so that would mean some games for the Aussie loafer.

At the moment I think Gerrard would be the only definite starter. I think Jose really likes Carvalho but I think if he had Carra he might change his mind. Finnan I think would start, but again, not definite.
I think he'd use Bellamy in his 4-3-3 as the RWF over SWP and Robben but not in his main side.
I think he'd have Xabi but he wouldn't be a guaranteed starter.
Which Chelsea players would Rafa start??

Alonso is potentially a future great, but better than Makalele in the defensive/holding role? Not a chance.

I'd have all the above
Plus...
I'd have Carvalho before Carragher (if sentiment and local roots weren't issues) *waits for torrent of abuse*
Drogba before Crouch
Makelele before Sissoko (ignoring age factors)

Sorry Nic, but he has a point. Out of all our players, the only one you could say categorically would get into the Chelsea side is Gerrard.
You might specualte about the rest, but if you were to ask Chelsea fans I bet they'd only take Stevie, and if you were to ask Maureen, I've got a hunch he'd only be after one man.
Let's face it. Aside from Carra and Gerrard, there probably isn't a single player we have that they couldn't poach from us if they felt like it. To be perfectly honest, I'm surprised that haven't tried it already, just to mess us up.

The few deluded Chelsea fans I've braved talking to recently are all so blinkered that they claimed Gerrard wouldn't get into their side and they wouldn't have him. :whatever:
They obviously all think Lampard is better, but one actually said "Essien is twice the player". :whatever:

Choosing an XI out of both squads and being as objective as possible, I would go for:
---------------CECH--------------
--FINNAN--CARRA--TERRY--RIISE--
--GERRARD--MAKALELE--BALLACK--
----SHEVA--DROGBA--ROBBEN-----

As Maureen prefers brawn over brain it seems, im not sure Alonso would get into the Chavski side.
Gerrard would, Carra would have a chance, Finnan would walk into the team, Could also argue they havnt much of a left side, and they havnt officially signed cole yet, so Riise or Aurelio? at left full.

Ashley Cole isn't a Chelsea player, yet.
Carra and Terry are different types of centreback and would in my opinion make a great paring.

Depends on the formation but Gerrard, Alonso, Riise, Carra, Finnan and Reina are all in with a shout.
Riise isn't if Cole signs for them.
Stevie, Carra, Alonso and maybe Garcia...
Alonso and Gerrard would WALK into their side. I can't believe anyone thinks that the Chavs have a player who is fit to lace Xabi's boots.
Mourinho would swap ANY player in his squad for Alonso, thankfully, that'll never happen.
Personally I think Momo is better than Makalele, I think Maka is over-rated.

I think there's a fair to middleling chance of Auerlio making it into chelseas first eleven. its widely known that the brazilian was their number one target for the left back berth this summer. but fortunately for us rafa paid an associate to hire an upmarket knightbridge rentboy to distract the special one during vital contract discussions. duly distracted by the job at hand, rafa moved in to seal the deal and pull off the biggest coup this transfer window. well thats my view on the situation, spiffing job rafa. three cheers for rafa hip hip hoorah.

The think is that playing Makelele you don't need another midfielder to perform defensive duties. Alonso is not at that level of positioning of defensive awareness (although he made massive strides last season).
I think overtime Alonso will become a better option but right now Makelele is peerless in his position.
I think I would take Xabi but Mourinho likes the two non-holding midfielders to be quite dynamic. For all his many virtues, Alonso isn't and therefore would not fit the Chelsea system. Gerrard on the other hand would be perfect.
