Del Bosque lifts lid on Real Madrid's Premiership stars
tribalfooball.com - April 01, 2007
Vicente del Bosque has revealed how he had mixed fortunes with some of the Premiership stars he worked with at Real Madrid.
The former Real coach admitted he didn't always see eye-to-eye with Bolton Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka, who signed for Real from Arsenal and won the Champions League with the Spanish giants.
"One day," recalled Del Bosque. "Anelka came to training - but refused to take part. I asked him what was going on and he presented me with a video-tape which captured me not celebrating one of his goals!"
Asked why his Real teams always seemed more united than the current model, Del Bosque highlighted the impact of former Liverpool ace Steve McManaman and current Chelsea midfielder Geremi.
"Geremi and McManaman were phenomenal with their teammates. Between them, they kept the squad united."

Despite the conditions under which he left the club, Macca is one of my all time favourite players.
What a career he had.
:respect:

On the 1st July 1999, after 364 appearances and 66 goals for Liverpool, McManaman made the decade's most highly publicised Bosman transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid
Twelve months later Gerard Houllier turned down the opportunity to re-sign the player.
Is this true? :jaw:
He remains the most successful British player to have played the game overseas in terms of trophies and honours won. He is the only English player to have won the Champions League title twice in its current format

Blame our stupid board and not Macca.
They are the reason that we didn't got anything for him. You can take that as 100% fact.
Everyone who calls Macca for McMoneyman just shows how little they know.
Our board agreed to sell Macca to Barca without him knowing anything about it. Macca had agreed to sign a new deal but when he found out about what our stupid board had done then he refused to sign the new deal and walked away on a Bosman a year later.

Real is a strange club, the success they demand is crazy, even winning the league and or cl is not enough for a coach to stay on for next season.

Didnt Anelka only score a few goals for them, something like 4 or 5?

Remember watching Macca at Anfield in the early 90s play for the reserves. Local lad, fantastic footballer and was more than happy to chat in the Arkles afterwards. He was the one reason to go to the game in the 90s. I suspect his world opened up to him when he got to Madrid. Classic example of right player wrong time.

Macca was a good player but not World Class. He wont those Cups cause Real were a good side at the time and their players were hungry, over the last few years they have all won what they wanted and there is no hunger in that squad. Its a shame and there board and fans are probably the most fickle in the world
macca could dribble put could hardly pass and certainly couldn't cross and although he did score goals if a remember rightly he could hardly shoot, he was skillful and popular but nowhere near as good as some people make him out to be

Most of the current team haven't won what they want. That team has aged and moved on, it's coping with this transition that is giving Madrid so much aggro at the moment. I don't doubt the hunger of most of the young players, but there is clear unrest and a lack of tactical acumen at the moment. Funnily enough, I think about the only signing that could rejuvenate Real is Benitez
Macca was world-class mate, he was an important part of the Madrid side that became so dominant arond the start of 2000, that's why it was so hard to accept when he left.
Sorry but he was class - don't blame him one bit for the way he left, in fact I was gutted when he did and remember celebrating like hell when he lifted those two Champions Leagues.
We could do with him back in the side now, he was highly under-rated in what he contributed to the team.

Would you rather the 95-98 version of Macca or Pennant in todays squad?

He has more assists than any other player in Liverpool history.
You're wrong.

He also scored in the Campions League final and was man of the match, so he played his part in a top side. He was at a team of superstars and didn't look like a fish out of water.
The galatico revoloution came in and he was filtered out, and look where it got Real, Fucking nowhere.
