One of my favourite fighters of the last two decades. The king of smack is back.

Toney eyes summer return!

James Toney looks sharp in a suit and he's quick with a good line—or an outrageous one. Can the 38-year-old heavyweight look quick and sharp in the ring after two losses to Samuel Peter?

No surprise, the relentlessly outspoken Michigander believes he can and will. Toney, in San Jose, Calif., for a March 29 fight card says it's not more of his (in)famous talk.

"I'm injury-free for the first time in a long time," said Toney, gray goatee hair matching his gray-pinstripe suit. "That's the biggest thing. I'm in the gym every day and I have my weight back down."

Now at what he said was 230 pounds, Toney looks to fight this summer, a bit later than he had in mind.

"We were looking at May, but there's a baby on the way," said Toney, who fought in the mid-230s in recent years and weighed 217 in late 2003, when he defeated Evander Holyfield. "There's a little boy coming."

Toney's not a young man, but he dismissed observations that maybe it's time to retire after a 79-fight-career that began 19 years ago in the middleweight division. While Toney said things are in the works for a reality show on Spike TV and a movie role or two, there's more boxing to be done, too.

"I'm a fighter and I fight, but I'm not stupid," he said at weigh-ins for a fight card featuring Olympic gold medalist Andre Ward. "I'm an honest guy and I'm honest with myself. I'll know when I can't do this."

No telling who Toney may fight, not that he cares, but he doesn't expect to face off against one of the top Russians or fight on HBO.

"The Russians have the cash and they have the belts," said Toney, who referred to HBO as Home Boys Only and called HBO announcer Jim Lampley "a woman-beater."

"We know how that goes and we know the Russians don't have what it takes. They fight top guys and they crumble. We've seen that."

James Toney vs Russia.

I'd buy that on PPV.

Fair to say that he did not quite live up to the hype of the early / mid 90s

A fat and out of shape Toney was still better than most of the fighters who got in the ring with him.

And watching him trash Holyfield was fantastic.

Not an Evander fan then?

He was an amazing crusierweight.

He looks like a circus strongman.

Losr the tache and retire, dude. His heart stopped, what? Ten years ago? Jesus. And those fights with Ruiz. Both should never be allowed to fight ever again. Unless it's with bears. To the death. With Toney as ringmaster. I'd buy that on PPV too.

Evander should have called it a day after the second fight against Moorer, or at worst after the second fight against Lewis. That last loss of his against Larry "Which hand is my left" Donald was embarrassing.

To be fair Evander does need the $$$$ to feed his kids.
