View Full Version : Free Kicks
Why when there is a free-kick and it's knocked sideways does the striking player only start running after the passer hits the ball?
This gives the defence a chance to get to it at the same time as the striker.
It would only take practice to start running and the passer kick the ball so the sriker is virtually on it as the first touch is made.
Surely it is no different to take it this way then a normal pass during open play?
Anyway, back to the match
Suprise element i suppose.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...

I'd say 99% of the time it doesn't work, 1% it does.
Espescially when it's Riise who's taking it.
I noticed Gerrard let Pennant take the one on the left side of the area. For him to do that , Pennant must have been knocking them in during training.
Even more possibilities , Rafa must be almost excited.

was just going to say the same thing.....lost somepace as that lad

He looked a bit podgy last night. Mind you, adidas kits always make the players look bigger than they are for some strange reason. Even Luis looked bigger.

I don't know why Riise continues to take them TBH.
He's absolutely rubbish at them.

its worth it when they do go in though, especially that one against the mancs, at least witht he signings we've made now we should have some decent free kick takers

Rolling ball makes it easier to get power when striking the ball. That's how I take my free kicks (but then again I always miss)
I'm not saying don't roll the ball, I am saying run earlier.
Simple premise, fucking run earlier you daft shit :)
You don't have to wait for your mate to touch the ball, the fucking opposition do
I thank you :handshake:

Yea I know. That's what I do. I don't understand why they wait?
Unless it's a rule?

I prefer the shite goals like that one against Birmingham. Nearly as crap as the free kick against Leverkusen

I like Riise, I just don't think he needs to be smashing freekicks into the wall every match, just for the sake that he's scored 2 before :handshake: .
They are usually a waste.
i think aurelio will be featuring in a lot of our freekicks from now on

In the FA Cup - it wasn't a free kick - I was being a bit facetious in my post

I wasn't talking about Birmingham:p .
He scored against Man U, Leverkusen and Chelsea with freekicks:D (ok, so 3 rather than 2, sorry, there's probably a few more too).
