    NFL Fans?

Posted once or twice on the subject over on KT and there were a few NFL fans over there too.

So have any of you good people made the jump?

Well, the off-season has settled. Injured players are recovering and the pre-season games are underway.

Most of the very best teams didn't do much in free-agency (Colts, Steelers, Patriots) and the upcoming season is looking very intriguing. Anyway, free-agency is over-hyped. The best teams are about depth and can build from within.

Any opinions on who is going to be playing in Super Bowl 41?

My biased 2c... Patriots v Giants. And another Manning to fall before Bill Belichick.

I gotta say, Arizona are building well, and while I don't think their o-line gives them enough to be playoff contenders this year, if they keep developing, they'll be strong next year.

O-line problems will, I think, limit Dallas this year as well.

Anyway, anybody else even interested in the coming season?

I do have an interest but not to a massive extent. I did go to the NFL superbash at Shepherds Bush earlier this year which features the New Orleans Saintsations!!

I tenuously follow the Chicago Bears...I know we had a solid defence last year!!!

      Hello hoey.

      You damned neocon.

      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Cant say Im a massive fan but when I've been to the states I sorta got behind the Bengals. I was in Florida and watched monday night football in a bar somewhere - twas the time of Marino - that era - and I just thought Id go for Cinnicinatti as everyone was so pro-Miami. And it sorta stuck - i keep my eye out for their results. My college team were always Auburn as I spent a bit of time in Alabama one year.

When I was younger I used to pay quite a lot of attention to the NFL, sort of lost touch the last few years..... though i think that might have also been a reaction to the inability I discovered I had to actually stay awake all the way through the superbowl broadcast. Reckon I've sarted to watch it atlast 10 times, I even got into the last quarter twice....

I'm gonna move this to the "general sports" forum btw dude

Always loved the Raiders - ever since Marcus Allen's 74 yard run in Super Bowl XVIII. And because of Marcus, I've always follwed his alma mater: USC.

Hopefully Art Shell can pick the Raiders up again and Pete Carroll can reload after losing Leinert, Bush & White.

Don't follow the NFL as in depth as I used to, but because of the time difference with Oz, I can track the games every Monday morning from work.

Yeah, good move, I realised I had posted it in the wrong forum.

Art Shell's a good coach, but I don't see any team with Aaron Brooks under centre doing well.

                Too many egos there.

Salary cap football requires gelling units.

We meet again my old adversary.

So are you primarily here or on KT? Just want to know where to look for threads that will bait me in to replies.

                  Good to see you here.

Yeah, I'm not too pleased with them signing Brooks either. Never set the world alight consistently at the Saints.

The Raiders never seem to want to rebuild to give them long term years of success. It always seems to be "reload" and take their best shot every year.

Gruden was starting to get there and then they let him go!

Yeah, that was a bad move.

There are 2 ways of looking at the salary cap NFL. 1 says that each year you spend as much as possible on "names in lights" and try to explode for a season winning the lot. That's the approach you speak of above, and it worked for Tampa Bay. But generally those teams only ever get near a conference championship once in a blue moon only to folow it with a number of losing seasons. The other approach is to build for the long term. Add 2 players to your roster with $3.5m cap hits rather than one $7m player. Have strong back-ups and build players within a system. It amazes me how many teams are still trying the first approach when the second has delivered so much for teams like the Patriots, Steelers and up till last year, the Eagles.

I gotta say though, I think the Raiders got one of the very best players in the draft this year in Michael Huff. He's going to have an outstanding career.

Here and there, here and there.

I used to watch the NFL live on Sky but after a while I no longer really cared who won or what happened.

I used to follow AFC teams because they hardly ever won the All-American Championship (or "Superbowl"). Then someone did a few times (wasn't it the Pats?) and I realized my primary interest had gone.

Used to like the Raiders. Quite like the Steelers - they remind me of LFC somehow.

The Broncos first turned over the NFC hold on the Superbowl. They won it twice in 98 and 99. Then the Pats won it 3 out of 4 years from 2001 to 2004.

Now it could be argued that the top 5 teams in the league are all in the AFC (Colts, Steelers, Patriots, Benaglsa and Broncos).

If it's just underdogs you're looking for, come back and root for the NFC teams.
