Taken the right decsion to retire. One of the all time greats. May have been arrogant and self centred at times, but in terms of talent, the guy is amazing. I will always remember the 375 he hit against England, watched all 5 days of that match and he caned the England attack all over the park.

One of the greatest. Shame he was in the poorest Windies team ever.

Thanks for starting a thread on this. :handshake:

The guy is an absolute legend! For me it's between him an Tendulkar to claim the accoldae of being the greatest batsment in modern era. It's diffiuclt to separate the two. No one else close.

If only Lara was around in the days when our team was great. He carried west Indies (ala Gerrard for Liverpool) for the majority of his career. I so wanted him to go out in style by winning the World Cup.

I agree wih you though Parm, it was the right decision in the end. :handshake:

Indeed it is, we've been really lucky to have 2 great players who have an abundance of natural talent. Very hard to separate them, for me I'd go for Sachin (obvious!) but I guess you'd go for Lara!
but even looking at the stats, will they ever be beaten? 11,953 runs really sets the bar high.

Is he retiring so he doesn't have to go to another World Cup?

As Warne put it:

1. Tendulkar
2. Daylight
3. Lara

However, I dont believe you can rank the two in such a manner - both contributed countless unforgettable moments to cricket and each are one of a kind. Both were natural talents, carried unrealistic burdens upon their shoulders and each annihilated attacks and records with ease.

In each sport there is an individual who raises the bar and forces the competition to work harder just to compete. Stephen Hendry, Michael Schumacher, Pete Sampras and Tiger Woods spring to mind. Cricket was fortunate to have two such individuals plying their trade at the same time.

The greatest compliment I can pay is that I'll remember Lara vs the Aussies when senility has taken the bulk of my memories later in life.

Legend.

I remember being absolutely gutted when I went to watch England v West Indies at Old Trafford and Lara was out second ball he faced.

Great player though, one of the best of all time.

On the flip side, here he is getting dismissed by a girl: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwyV1qO8aw4

I grew up as a Young Lad watching Greame Pollock bat in Domestic Cricket in SA and the few Tests he had. I did not think I would see another Left Handed Batsman with his Elegant and Effortless Batting Style.

I was Wrong - Brian Lara equalled and surpassed my Former Hero :respect:

It will be a Sad day tomorrow. I hope he gets going and gives us a Final Glimpse of his Genius. Pity It will be in a meaningless match :(

What did he do to Sarwan?

His team mates had to hold him back :)

Apparently Sarwan bats for the other side, hence the sledge in the First place. But I'm sure McGrath didnt expect that come back

A bit like the one with Ian Healy and Eddou Brandes the Zimbabwean player

Healy - "Eddou why are you so Fat?"
Brandes - "Because every time I fuck your wife, she gives me a biscuit.

That's common knowledge. McGrath plays for Australia while Sarwan is a West Indies batsman. To be honest you wouldn't expect teammates to talk to each other like that.

legend and a classic 'genius'...might not have been the most reliable guy or as consistent as Tendulkar but I'd rank him above Sachin purely for some of the unbelievable innings' he played - people will remember them for ever. And right now I can't think of any innings Tendulkar played that even came close...for Lara to break the record once, lose it to Hayden then come back and hit 400, you couldn't make it up. Then there was his ridiculous 501 for Warwickshire and his knock against the Aussies...

I remember trying to imitate his exaggerated backlift when I was younger, but no-one I knew could get their bat down in time to make it work, his style was truly unique.

BC Lara :respect:
