    Sunderland - great for Ireland..

    ...That they've been promoted.

I'm delighted that Sunderland are up. It's fantastic for us 'Oirish'. It (Sunderland) will be like a home away from home for the young Irish rising stars and for quite a few full Internationals.

There will be massive scouting over here now by Sunderland and there won't be as many top class young players let slip through the net. there will be a load over at Sunderland and plenty will be called up for international duty and be well used to playing with eachother. They will also have a winning mentality instilled into them by Keane etc; you can be sure of that.

I'm delighted for Keano, early sign look like he may be as great a manager as he was a player. (Early signs but looking good)

        "Keano"?

What I don't understand is why so many of the Irish still seem to love Keane (even Irish Reds ) despite the fact that he ****ed your country over without a moment's hesitation, for purely selfish reasons. He doesn't give a **** about you lot and he doesn't give a **** about his country - so why do you all love him?

He's a Manc **** who made a complete c*nt of himself in Japan. He was a ****ing majestic footballer, mind, and he's doing pretty well as a manager. He has a real aura about him, I'll give him that much.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

          We don't ALL love him.

          Only the fickle ones.

It does strike me as very fickle, though. If I were an Irishman I'd view him with contempt given the way he ****ed his country over in Saipan. An ego maniac with an uncontrollable temper, it's only a matter of time before this calm facade (as a manager) slips.

Depends which side of the argument you're looking from Shaggy.

I tend to look at it from Keane's side,he felt the Irish team were not being prepared for a WC to a professional standard.
The attitude was more one of "sure isn't it great just to be here"

Many feel that Irish team could've gone further then we did and beaten Spain in the Quarters.

He was ambushed by McCarthy in that meeting from what I've read of the situation and although he may have over reacted,I don't blame him for walking out.

Secondly he's not a Manc he from Cork.
Right enough he played for Man U but surely thats a bit of a childish reason to hate someone?

I hate Gary Neville because of the way he acts and the bile he comes out with about LFC and the supporters.

But Keane has always been respectful of Liverpool,It's fans, tradition, winning ways etc..

Just becuse he wore the jersey isn't reason enough for me to hate him.

In fact Mark Hughes is probably one of my favorite palyers of all time alongside Keane, the rest are made up of Liverpool players/Irish players and some from abroad, the team someone plays for isn't going to colour my respect for them as a player.

We're all entitled to our opions however and if other Liverpool fans want to hate him then work away,I respect the guy as a player,as an up and coming manager and for his attitude of standing up for his beleifs.

I respect that. I only wanted to know why so many Irishmen still love him.

My uncles all hate him, but then they're LFC fans who sided with McCarthy at the time.

I don't particularly like him myself (because I felt let down at the WC) but there's no denying that the whole situation is good for Ireland and we could do with something like this happening to get the international scene going again. Although with staunton at the helm, I'm not sure it actually can get going again.

And whether I like Keane or not, it will be interseting to see him back in the prem as a manager. I'm looking forward to seeing himself and Mourinho do battle if Mourinho's still here!

I'm an LFC fan who sided with Keane. Us Cork men are used to perfection so demand the same from others

There's defo no sitting on the fence on this issue

But, what it boils down to me is the above. I can never understand that. Even if he felt he was ambushed (and by the sounds of things he was by Mick, Quinn, Kelly etc) how can you walk away from your country at anytime, let alone when they need you most?
I'd give my left leg (coz my right is my good one) to play for Ireland. That guy chose not to.

Great player and all that, but I can't forgive him.
Well, here we are in a room with two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.

Sometimes walking away is the best thing you can do. The Cork hurlers went on strike over traning facilities (sound familiar) a few years back. The got the situation improved and went on to reach 4 all ireland finals in a row, winning two of them.

So Cork people always desert their teams?

Maybe we should impose a ban not allowing any Cork players to play for us. It's not worth the risk.

Sounds like a Cork thing, throw the toys out of the pram

Anyhow, didn't do Ireland any good. We went out to Spain (could have done better in that game), came home, lost to Swiss and Russia and essentially had a horrible campaign. Now we're 4th seeds.
