Pretty crazy shit for sure!!!

Having had a loaded (probably) gun pointed at myself more than once (one of those was when i was at primary school believe it or not). I'm pretty sure Stan will get over this very quickly - relating to personal experience.

I did laugh (probably wrong - HH brigade) when i read that, he had a gun pointed at him - and turned and fled! hehe

Bob, if it's not too much to ask, could you please enlighten us on your experiences as I am intrigued! I'm sure I remember you saying you were from a tough area in N.Ireland(or was that someone else?)

You're so ghetto. The most I had pointing at me were fingers of other kids when the biscuits that were given away with free milk back in the day went missing. It wasn't me.

My wife has told me some weird shit about her upbringing in NI....as a three year old she had a gun placed against her head by Republicans as they where trying to "persuade" her daddy to let them borrow his van for the evening. On another occasion the house was broken into by the same organisation much displaying of big hand guns to scare a 6 & 4 year old whilst their parents were "asked" to help the cause.....Eventually the family upped sticks and left for the relevent peace and quiet of the Lebanon!! only kidding they moved to the North East of England where I was waiting to whisk her away...

It’s not something I care for posting/talking about to be honest for many reasons – though not cause of any trauma. Have tons of stories, but I find most of them boring to tell so it’s never a topic that I raise, and usually decline when asked. But for the record…

First time was by a 10 year old kid!! Memory hazy as I was only six at the time, just remember being lined up against a wall with a kid leaning over a blue wheelie bin with his dad’s shotgun. Can’t even remember how that came to a conclusion.

Second was rather more hairy. A eighteen year old lad walking back alone from the local after closing, not particularly pissed I might add, and a car screeches to halt in front of me, reverses alongside me and winds the window down to reveal two men (not masked) looking straight at me. To be fair I thought my number was up, perhaps a bit of drink and adrenaline kicking in afforded me the balls to turn and face them quizzically. No words were said, seconds passed, and without breaking eye contact they just sped off. Rarely have I mentioned this anyone. Crikey, my own mother doesn’t even know of these.

Last, and hopefully lastly was when I was in a group of lads - when I get barged heavily in the back. I just shouted ‘FFS’, and when I turned around I was standing face to face with quite a notorious loyalist, masked - though not hard to work out who it was. He has a recognisable build and eyes. I should point out that he never raised the gun to me; before he was grabbed by his accomplishes and disappeared. When I mean disappeared, I mean it, was like they just ghosted away – like a big marine called camouflage woo hoo.

Have to say my experiences of NI were very mild. I had no problem with the violence that existed around us. Rather, what made me move was the small-minded mentality, intolerance, and sensitivity of the people that lived there.

The only story that got to me was that of David McIIwaine and Andrew Robb, and those involved in the killing. Went to school with Robb, and while he was a lad I knew would always get into trouble, he certainly didn’t deserve the killing (in the same vein of the Shankhill butchers) he got. Met him that fateful night as well – sad! More reading can be found here - http://www.birw.org/David.html - didn’t know this lad though.

That feud were very bad times indeed mostly because I knew a lot of people affected by it, like the Jameson family, who had their dad taken away, and the guy who got arrested for the Robb slaying who I used to play snooker with. That’s the thing, you just never had any idea what double life some people had. I was once told, in no uncertain terms to go to a house the following day, were I would get a gun on receipt of fighting for the cause, fuck that, I choose life.
