View Full Version : Hargreaves ponders Filth switch
Good player, underrated for a long time, but still a poor man's Sissoko. Even if they sign him our midfield tramples all over theirs.
England and Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves is considering an offer from Manchester United.
"The offer from United is fantastic," Hargreaves, who recently signed a contract extension with Bayern, told German magazine Sport Bild.
"Particularly as an England international, it's of interest and you never know if such an opportunity will arise again," said the 25-year-old.
"Now is the time to take the next step to develop even further."
The midfielder, who has 34 caps, made his England debut against Holland in a friendly at White Hart Lane in August 2001.
Hargreaves was a member of the England squad at the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004, but was played in a number of different positions and struggled to establish himself in the team.
However, he was in excellent form at the World Cup in Germany, starring in the centre of midfield against Sweden and Portugal, and is set to start for England against Greece in a friendly at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Hargreaves has spent his entire professional career with Bayern since moving to Germany from Canada as a 16-year-old in 1997.
He made his debut for the German club on 12 August 2000, coming on as a substitute for Carsten Jancker.
Hargreaves has been linked with numerous Premiership clubs over recent years, including Arsenal, Tottenham and Middlesbrough.

He's nothing like Sissoko really.
He sits tight and usually holds a deep, defensive midfield position, from which he uses the ball quickly to build attacks.
Sissoko is a one-man wrecking machine who is all over the pitch.

True - Hargreaves is more like a more athletic but less cunning Didi.
Oh I dunno. Yes he can (and does) sit but he often also goes marauding in a similar way to Momo...pressing all over the pitch.
I don't think he's anywhere near as "rigid" as Didi was in terms of 'sitting'. He gets forward much more (witness his performances in the World Cup) and does his pressing, harrying and tackling higher up the pitch (usually) than Didi does.
Either way, Carrick or Hargreaves wouldn't get a game for us.
I still don't rate the guy. One and a half good games for England do not change anything for me.
If the Mancs want to spunk their cash onhim then let them..hahahahahaha!!

You are aware that he's been at Bayern Munich for a decade, won a European cup at 20 and was instrumental in securing a domestic double for them last year? That he's won more trophies than most of the players in the England team.
Oh. You're not.
Carry on.

actually I am, 4 bundesligas and the 2001 Cl + a few cups.
So what. He came in to the side did a job for a few months for them, got called up by England. He had a good team around him.
He is the equivalant of someone like Phil Neville. Won a lot of caps with England and trophies with the scum, never established a position and eventually was not up to the task.
he wasnt a regular last year though

Apparently they are prepared to pay £13million.
I like him, but he isn't worth that.

That's like saying Chris Sutton is a world beater because of all the trophies he won at Celtic. Bayern are the only decent club in Germany.
I agree with Parm, he's got flop, flop, flopipty, flop written ALL over him.
Crank up the price Bayern :D

Same, if he's worth £13m that makes Alosno the bargain of the century.

It's on Talkcrap radio now that Man USA have agreed terms with Hargreaves, but Bayern definitely won't sell him. Evidently they will hold him to his contract that he recently signed. Let's hope they're right!
My view from seeing him about 10 times:
His usual playing style is more like Makelele in that he hold deep postions and is always looking to get into position to recieve the ball. His short passing is as good as anyones, rarely looses the ball. His defensive positioning is good, but not as good as Didi or Makelele, however he is more athletic and thus versatile than either.
I think a Carrick/Hargreaves partnership would be as strong as anything in the league bar ourselves and Chelsea. Considering how well Man U did last season with a patched together midfield I think it would make them a much more serious threat in the league.

I quite like Hargreaves. Of course I won't be able to like him anymore once he moves there.

Hargreaves is a really decent player, but £30m for a midfield of him and Carrick? I just don't really see where the flair's going to be, put it like that :haha:
They have Scholes, Giggs and Ronaldo though which gives a fair bit of flair, plus Rooney up front. Also Carrick is a good passer and if he has another player doing the spade work for him could really pull the strings in midfield considering the quality of movement of the players mentioned above.
17 million! http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,277-2318283,00.html
FLMAO!
Gerrard - Trainee.
Sissoko - 5m.
Alonso - 10m.
