Lee Hughes to sign for Oldham

Has he paid his dues after killing a fella whilst driving under the influence of drink and drugs?

When was that - about 2/3 years ago? If so then the sentence is too short in my opinion. However I can't say I know the full circumstances.

The sentence was too short but he's done his time.

It's a great coup for the Latics if Hughes retains his ability.

He got six years and has almost served half which is pretty standard time for parole. Not saying this is long enough or not but all he can do is serve the sentence he was given like everyone else

Was he under the influence of drink or drugs? I though he was only jailed for dangerous driving.

Nah he wasn't off his head. I think his crime was ploughing down the victim, obv, and then speeding off.

BBC reports that he ran away from the scene of the crash - allegedly to avoid detection of his intoxication, but obviously that is speculation.

I agree with the consesus that having served the time layed own for him then he should be free to play. It is the length of the sentence I would query if the circumstances were as they are described in the article.

He was jailed for dangerous driving. He also fled the scene and didn't hand himself in for 36 hours. Make your own mind up if he was on drink and/or drugs.

Wow, I had no idea Dunk was signing anyone!!

Did it cost him 30, or is it an appearance based contract strictly on number of posts?

They couldn't prove he was drunk but he admitted that he had drank something like 2 beers and one shot or something like that.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

How long did he spend doing porridge? Five years? Four years?

Notts County's Lee Hughes arrested over sexual assault

Notts County striker Lee Hughes has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault after an incident involving a woman at a hotel in south London, the BBC understands.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to a hotel in Purley Way, Croydon, at 23:00 GMT on Saturday.

A 35-year-old man, believed to be Mr Hughes, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and taken into custody.

He was bailed until a date in late January, pending further inquiries.

In a statement, Notts County said: "Notts County can confirm that the club are aware of an alleged incident involving one of our players at the team's hotel on Saturday, 3 December.

"As this is a police matter, the club will be making no further comment on this incident."

The team was staying at the hotel on Saturday night, prior to their match against Sutton United on Sunday evening.

His past will go against him but I'm always wary when footballers/celebs get accused of sexual assault or rape in hotel rooms.
