Lucas Leiva is injured & out of World Cup

Two days before Brazil's U-20 national team's debut in the World Cup, Lucas, who plays for England's Liverpool, was replaced on Thursday for Marcone, of the Brazilian team Bahia.

According to the website of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), the midfielder got injured, which prompted the replacement. Lucas was the team's leader when it won the South American U-20 Championship title in Paraguay, in Jan. The negotiations for his transfer to Liverpool were accomplished in May, but he played for his former club Gremio up to the Libertadores Cup final, won by Argentina's Boca Juniors on June 20.

Marcone is 19 years old and, since junior divisions, he has been playing for Brazil's traditional club Bahia, which currently disputes the Brazilian League's Serie C.

On Saturday June 30, Brazil will face Poland in its first game at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, to be held in Canada. The other players in the roster are: Cassio (Gremio), Eduardo (Corinthians), Luizao (Cruzeiro), David Luiz (Benfica), Roberto (Atletico Paranaense), Marcelo (Real Madrid), William (Corinthians), Jo (CSKA), Renato Augusto (Flamengo), Alexandre Pato (Internacional), Muriel (Internaional), Amaral (Palmeiras), Davis (Palmeiras), Edson (Figueirense), Carlo (Coritiba), Ji Parana (Internacional), Carlos Eduardo (Gremio), Luiz Adriano (Shakhtar Donetsk), Leandro Lima (So Caetano) and Felipe (Santos).

Fooking great, :whatever: was looking forward to watch him play live on Saturday, hope it ain't serious and he can be ready for pre-season

Sad to hear, i am sure he must be gutted missing out on the Under-20 World Cup, especially him being the captain.

Well lets hope his injury is not that serious and now he can hook up with his new team mates and get settled in Liverpool

That's a shame for the lad.

Reckon this could be in the main forum, not really transfer speculation as we signed him already.....
