The fact that Mendes' current state is described as "stable" tells a story in it's self.

Totally agree. Should be a 6month ban. Let alone a yellow. 3 games wouldn't even be enough. The behind angle is even worse. As Redknapp said, you could see it coming a mile off.

I couldn't beleive that Stuart Pearce tried to defend Thatcher by saying " If you're going at the speed Thatcher was going and you don't win the ball then sometimes mistakes like this can happen." WTF?!

You could clearly see the he tried and succeeded in hurting a fellow proffesional. That's his years of training at Wimbledon shining through.

I hope that the F.A. throw the book at him.

To be honest Mendes should have Thatcher up on an assault charge. That was a deliberate elbow to the face. You could see Thatcher look for his head when he lunged at him.

That kind of attack warrants the FA kicking him out of football. Screw the "he got a yellow card" bollocks.

You could also tell that it was deliberate and that he'd lost it by the mouthful of abuse that he gave the other player who tried to get past him, having spotted that Mendes was in trouble and needed urgent medical treatment. I'm very disappointed by Pearce's reaction too.

Thatcher's challenge was a disgrace, and how could Gallagher only give him a yellow for it!? Can he look at it again and change his mind and take further action in his report?

The reports say that the FA cannot do anything else about it as he was 'punished' with a yellow card at the time, however, if they look at the incident again and decide not to take matters further then they really have taken the p!ss this time!! The FA are there to make the rules up so they should be able to ammend this one, and prove to everyone that they are capable of being 'sensible' and punishing deliberate foul play for a change.

They don't have a true set of b@lls between them though so I don't expect any further action from them. :miffed: I hope Mendes fully recovers from this.

Disgrace of a challenge - the FA has to do something about this. Upon replay Gallagher has to admit that he didn't see the incident clearly and that it needs looking at again. Thatcher then has to get a minimum 6 game ban, but it should be much more.

If Thatcher is allowed to play again this season it would be a disgrace. There was one purpose for his actions, to injure the other player as much as possible.

He has used his elbow consistently in the past and continues to do so.

If he never played again it wouldn't be a loss to the game.

I think the book will be well and truly thrwon at him. Reason being Harry was rather calm about it after the game. I am sure he would have normally gone ballisitc unless he had already had a word with someone about it.

I dunno fella. You look at it again and see how fast Thatcher was moving and then to deliberately smash your elbow into someones face at that speed.....he could have killed him. Boxers have died with lesser hits than that. That's bone on bone at high speed. Vicious.

Not quite true. Ferguson had several previous convictions for assault including one where he battered a guy on crutches at a taxi rank.

Ferguson was on his 'last warning' so to speak and the headbutting incident with McStay at Ibrox was the final straw for the courts.

Football is a physical sport though thatcher crossed a line last night.

Hope the FA do the sensible thing and issue a four match ban - not a police matter.

The challenge gets worst every time I see it, Thatcher’s a disgrace. IMO the end result in this will see Thatcher receive a 6 or 7 match ban.

With regards to the police investigation I can’t see much coming out of this. Does anybody think that it is a possibility that he will be charged with assault/GBH/ABH? Obviously it would be deserved if he was to be charged but because it happened on a football field, could it/will it happen?

Exactly what I was just going to write... I've seen this about 20 times now, and it just gets worse and worse. As SSN said today, he elbowed Nicky Summerbee before, collapsed a blokes lung on MC EU tour this summer....the blokes got a problem. I hope the book is thrown at him and more :rant: . As for Gallacher, if the only excuse he has is that he didn't see it - I hope he books an appointment to see an optician. F*(^*%&ing disgrace.
