View Full Version : Obafemi Martins
Apparently he's flying in to have a medical and sign for Newcastle today for £10m.
Whenever I've seen this lad play he seems a good little player. He has bags of pace (rumours says he can apparently run the 100m in sub-11 seconds) and is very powerful with it, and his goalscoring record isn't bad either.
Although he'll be playing for the Mags I look forward to seeing how he does in the Premiership. He'll have the added pressure of having Shearer's old number 9 shirt too!
What do you guys make of him? We've been linked before.

He's a good player no doubt - I have doubts on how he'll adapt to the Premiership, and if living in Newcastle will suit him.
The Toon still have a few signings to make to avoid having a 'mare of a season, IMO.
I'd love to know how old Martins really is though!!
He probably would love to know how old he is too!!! ;)
Makes you think doesn't it - I wonder if you know how old you are, if you only had memories to go off, and no recorded material or older people to tell you?!? I'll shut up now. ;)

I think he's rubbish. He's fast and has decent ball control, but his finishing is woeful. There's no way he's worth £11m odd.

nail on head. every time ive seen him hes looked ok, a bit of a nuisance to defenders. BUT he cant shoot for shit, and his goals record is kack. also, he was mainly a sub last season, must be for a reason.
So the general opinion is that he's no good then! :D
He'll be well suited up North 'en!

Which is saying something considering the form that Adriano was in last year and that Julio Cruz is a worse footballer than Douglas Bader.

I think he's costing the barcodes too much, yes he's fast but not consistant enough IMO. They will struggle this term, they still need to sort there defense out as well as find another 'target man' striker. Shame they didn't get Kuyt:haha:

LOL, probably on a 100k a week, are Newcastle the new Leeds:crackoff:
I think he's shit and am surprised to read that people rate him!
He's a total Cisse clone - i.e. shit. Fast as fuck like, and he probably channels his pace a little better than Cisse does, but he has no footballing brain and to say his finishing is erratic would be a rather large understatement.
Now I've said that, he'll probably tear up the Premiership.
Seen Newcastle last night - one of the worst games i have seen in my life. Take Duff out and it could have been a helluva lout worse.
Newcastle really need a finisher - fox in the box.
Delighted they fucked up and bought this guy :)

BTW at the end of the Newcastle match when the host was talking with Pat Nevin about the Champions League group and Nevin said he thought Liverpool would struggle in the group, he turned to Pat and said "so who have Everton got in Europe, oh they not in it" :haha:
