Fantasy Football Clinic - Reds helping Reds

So lads its that time again ..the boredom of the footie less summer is nerly over The madness which is the Transfer window is nearly over and here comes the Fantasy Lg intial squad buiding period.

This year I am in two lgs ... The Yahoo Lg and also the pay The Fantasy Lg which I have never played before and looking forward to getting stuck into the online auction

In the latter lg only one person in the LG can have a player ... I am thinking I can pick up some bargains .. if I put a minmium bid for some new signings ..

Both Lgs are full of part time plastic Chavs and Manks and I want to really spank them ... Thought perhaps we could all put our collective noggins together with the view to sticking it to rest of them ..

Anyways what says you ... My biggest weakness is I always choose with my heart and not my head at the start of the season ...

I am thinking ..Babble could be a bargain but I am not sure how much action he will see .. also I am prepared to splash the cash for Pepe .. think hes worth it ..

Torres I am not sure keeping its his first season and he has kuyt, crow and crouchino chomping at his heels

Anyways any players you think you just have to have in your squad this coming fantasy season

Apologies on the laptop Cant be arsed to spell check

David James is a good fantasy keeper ive found....makes lots of saves, which usually helps your score considerably

Lampturd and/or Cronaldo are a must....they rack up points. Even if the rest of your midfield looks dodgy its worth it just to have these two in there. Bentley from Blackburn was good last season too, he may fly under people radar.

Van Persie was flying last season before he got hurt......i think he will pick up where he left off.

Im thinking Geremi may have a decent season at Newcastle....he will score a few goals, and if he is classed as a defender he may get some decent points.

Good thread, I could do with some help pickign my team. I'm always loath to pick Liverpool players as I get paranoid I'll jinx them. I'm doing the Telegraph league and i had both Ronaldo and Fats last year and they scored well, but this year they are both incredibly expensive. Anyone spot any potential bargains as team fillers?

van Persie and Yakubu were in my team last year and both did brilliantly. Yakubu is normally relatively cheap and scores goals (and points) season in, season out.

Not sure whether to do one this season though...I always lose interest after about a month and never check it again.

Mcsheffrey from Brum.....scored 16 goals last season from the wing. I think they will go alright this season

Remember penalty takers. Gilberto scored 10 league goals for the arse last season ,Arteta scored 9 for the Bloos and I think Gary Speed scored a similar amount for Bolton

For such a thread to be anyway productive you would have to have a different one for each Fantasy Football type, ie. Mirror, Star, Premleague.

Each one scores different so its impossible to say who is a good player to have and who isn't. Some FF's concentrate on goal scorers for points and some on performances, so you need to know how points are gained. Prices are obviously different depending on who who you do it with and some don't even have prices, they limit you to a number of players per team.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

i'm doing the Telegraph version and found it tough to pick my team. I have unlimited transfers until the seasons start so if any one can help feel free. My team at the mo is: 4-4-2

                    Reina

                    Agger M.Ball A.Ferdinand Lescott

                    Gerrard Arteta Fatso Ronaldo

                    Bellamy Van Persie

Not ideal but had trouble fitting in the key players for the price.

lampard is a must, takes all FKs, corners and penos + loads of goals from long range shots.

Is fatso Lampard? If it is, thats a cracking midfield.

I usually try go a 343, but thats going to be hard with your mid....maybe sell Arteta for a cheaper player like Bentley, and get a cheap defender for your bench like Jaidi/Halford.

then another striker. Im thinking Healy could do alright for Fulham, Sanchez knows how to play him, and if he can get him playing like he does for NIR, then he could be a bargain.

Ashley Young is also good value. He scored some good points last year, and i see him being better this season.

Nicey, mate-- winning is all about balance. Look at the point totals per player and their relative costs and try to get players that cost a little less and scored nearly as much as a more expensive player. Of course, you want to then try to get one or two points LEADERS in each category. The place to spend on the best is in the midfield-- they tend to get the most points.

As an example, in Fantasy Premier League, Rooney is 12 million on 184 points, last season's highest scoring striker (which is bull****, it should be Drogba, but that's a whole other bucket of wax). Rooney's total is only 2 points more than Fabregas, who was only 9.5 million and 11 points more than David James, who is only 5 million! Are those two points worth 2.5 million? Are 11 points worth 7 million?

If you can't afford everyone, always spend money on points.

Look across all of your positions and find value and scoring, spend big once in defense, striker and maybe twice in midfield, and remember that points all count the same; If saving 3 million here can get you two players whose combined total surpass the total of two others (even if they are less exciting) always follow this rule: SPEND MONEY ON POINTS BECAUSE POINTS WIN TITLES.

                              Yes Fatso - Lampard.

In the Telegraph you have £50 M to pick your players, no subs bench with 30 transfers a season. I loaded up in midfield as these players seemed to consistently score well last year (not so much Gerrard but i truly expect him to be more on form this season). I am weak at the back though as all the Chlesea/Liverpool/Utd defenders are the most expensive. Although Ben Haim is cheapish so I'm monitoring that to see if he plays.

Out of interest, in the Telegraph league I'm sure Bently is as expensive there or thereabouts as Arteta.
