    Pennant

is a strange one. I was pleased with the signing and thought he was ok on his debut. but his first instinct is to cut inside. time & again. the one time he got to the byline and young crouch scored a fine goal in midweek. I hope once the boy finds his feet in the red shirt he will take the fullback on more often. Not a critisim at this stage merely an observation.

Also the boy Kuyt can move. Not lightening speed but clever striker movement, like Rush & Aldo used to do. This lad could be magnificent.

pretty much agree with everything there mate. I thought pennant had a decent game, nothing more nothing less. But, I was sat there myself wondering why he wouldnt take the full back on at all. didnt make sense, as hes certainly got the pace to. still thought he was ok though. Kuyt was absolutely brilliant and is going to tear the premier league to bits. How much of a nightmare must he be for centre halves!
Wish bellamy would spend a bit more time concentrating on his use of the ball rather than whinging about decisions all the time. I know its in his make up and that, but it knocks him off his game. he can spend 5 full minutes moaning about one offside decision.

I think he will be a great signing for us, I wasn't keen on him before as I hadn't seen him play except at the world cup where he looked like moro. He has the same sort of link up as him but has the pace to get back into a postion to attack until nando.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Also was Kuyt spending ages in the centre circle clapping the crowd, as I thought it was him but the sky zoomed out so couldn't see.

It's sooo great to see us playing with proper wingers (Pennant and Gonzalez). That goal crouch got midweek - we haven't scored a goal like that in years. Beats the man, takes it to the byeline and whips the cross in.

            A great weapon for us.

Yeah I did notice Pennant was cutting inside a lot today, unusually so IMO, perhaps it was something tactical, who knows. He did put in a great cross for Crouchy early on though. I'm sure we'll see plenty more of that from him in the future...

i think he was being forced inside because of double marking. Tony Gale reckoned that Bowyer was playing LM to double up on him.

That's quite right. Ham done a decent job on Pennant today, but he still done well.

there were plenty of times he got the ball and only had the fullback in front of him but chose to come inside. I didn't see too much of the double teaming in all honesty.

Pennant's movement in the first half was minimal to be perfectly honest. Can't remember him taking on the full back or getting to the byline very often, and cut inside far foo often. Hopefully, it was a one-off.

Cuts in a bit too much for me also, he should really learn to mix it up a bit keep full backs guessing. i guess though the longer the season goes on then maybe he'll start to do that a bit more

I think invariably a player that looks to beat his man will lose the ball more - that's just a fact when you are trying to beat a decent defender. So he might be playing it safe at the moment, seeing as he's new to the team - playing the percentages, as it were. Looking for the easy pass insider.
