View Full Version : Giovani dos Santos
A major Premiership club is prepared to meet Giovani dos Santos' buyout clause in his present Barcelona contract, it has been revealed.
El Mundo Deportivo says the English club has contacted the 18 year-old Mexican's agents in recent days to inform them that they're ready to pay Dos Santos' £20 million buyout clause.
A source close to the Dos Santos camp said: "Barca has committed an understandable, but dangerous, error. They've allowed the world to see this diamond without guaranteeing that there is no chance of him being snatched away."
Dos Santos now carries a Spanish passport and he is hugely admired by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and Liverpool's Rafa Benitez.

£20m on an unproven kid, no chance. I really hope it is the chavs and not us, if it is even true at all.

Would never want us to buy him. maybe im wrong but although ive heard great things just like everyone else, i would have not seen anything to justify the hype. Isnt Rijkaard supposed to be a bit unimpressed too?

Cant see it being United - they need an out and out striker and wouldnt really have room for Dos Santos.
Could be Chelsea - possible replacement for Ballack?
Doubt it's Arsenal, they probably cant afford him.
Gotta be the south london branch of the KGB really.

Summer 2007
During the summer of 2007 the Mexican club Chivas de Guadalajara tried to convince FC Barcelona to lend them Giovani for a year, in order to give him first division experience and the joy to play for the first time in the Primera División de México, both FC Barcelona and Giovani rejected the offer.
Giovani also won the Bronze Ball at the 2007 U-20 World Cup in Canada. He started practicing with the Barcelona first team on the 22 of July. He is required to take a physical but other than that it looks like the young U-17 World Cup Champion will see action for the 2007-2008 season.
Dos Santos has enjoyed an impressive pre-season with Barcelona, scoring four goals in five games, making him the sides leading goal scorer with one goal above Ronaldinho. His pre-season performances have earned him a man of the match award against Yokohama F. Marinos, as well as praise from Rijkaard and his fellow team-mates. In the 4-0 match against Mission Hills Invitation XI (a joint team of two HK local soccer clubs) at the Mission Hills Cup on 11 Aug 2007, he also scored one goal at the second half in the Hong Kong Stadium.
On 29 of August, 2007, Giovani received dual nationality from the Spanish Constitution. He can now be part of the community team. This keeps him from being part of the three non-EU players allowed to play.On That Same day he scored a goal against Inter Milan and FC Barcelona went on to win 5-0
Dos Santos is now subject of a £10 million offer from English Premier League team Manchester City.

I have also seen Bojan play. Now he is some fucking talent. It is scary the talent they have at barca.
Just imagine they have Ronny, Henry, Etoo and Messi in the first team at the moment.
Add to them Dos Santos and Bojan who are both almost exact doubles of Messi!! I swear.
If Barca can keep those 6 players at the club they will easily be the best team in the world bar none. I don't think i have ever seen so much talent in 1 squad ever. Trust me, teams will fear them, even us

Giovanni looks to lightweight for the Prem. He has brilliant talent, don't get me wrong but he doesn't have the physique to make an impact straight away. It might mean he might have to be loaned to a Championship club to learn the physical side or the game.

Chelsea could have inside-running for Barcelona starlet Giovani dos Santos.
It’s emerged this week that a Premiership club has contacted Dos Santos’ representatives about meeting his £20 million buyout clause.
Meanwhile, ONA FM last night reported that the 18 year-old Mexican had changed agents, with Jorge Mendes now handling his affairs. Mendes is also the agent of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
AS today says the Premiership club interested in Dos Santos boasts a management that has great respect for the Spanish Liga.

Krkic's Dad drops Barcelona bombshell
tribalfooball.com - September 06, 2007
The father of Spanish superkid Bojan Krkic has dropped a bombshell, admitting a move away from Barcelona is a possibility.
Krkic is regarded as the best young talent for his age anywhere in the world, but it's understood his Dad is upset that Barca are paying more attention to Giovani dos Santos than the striker.
"Bojan likes Barca a lot and wants to stay there," said Krkic Snr, "but if the moment arrives when Barca do not give him opportunities, then perhaps we must consider our options."
Making things more delicate for Barca is that Krkic Snr won't consider Bojan moving away on-loan in the winter market: "I rule out that he leaves in December."

I think you'll find Arsenal could quite easily afford him and it wouldnt surprise me if it was them
Barcelona fear that Mexican Giovani dos Santos will join Manchester United or Chelsea in the New Year because the 18-year-old has hired Pini Zahavi as his new agent.
United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are all keeping close tabs on the skilful attacking midfielder — touted as a successor to Ronaldinho at the Nou Camp — who will make his debut for Mexico against Panama today.
Giovani, who starred in Mexico's Under-17 World Cup win in 2005, is under contract at Barca until 2008 and has a buy-out clause of around £10 million. But because he signed his contract before he turned 18 and was not officially an adult, his deal may not be legally enforceable.
Zahavi, who fixed Roman Abramovich's deal to buy Chelsea and who has negotiated many transfers for United, will act for Giovani in November.
Zahavi said: "Until then I will not speak to anyone about him. There has been no contact with English clubs. But obviously Giovani is a diamond of world football. He has a contract until 2008 but he signed when he was under 18, so you can look at that how you wish."
Barca fear that Zahavi's links with Abramovich and Sir Alex Ferguson mean they may have to break their budget to keep him.
Dos Santos, son of former Brazilian player Zizinho, has a European Union passport and will not require a work permit.

I think hes going to be an outstanding player who will light up any league he plays in.
If we have the tiniest chance of getting him, we should be in there.
Dos Santos on a free is a no brainer. Even if he won't make it in the PL then we would easily be able to sell him for £15m+.
When are they going to sort out the youth contract system in Spain - so many teams getting fucked over by Prem clubs. I wouldn't complain if he came here but they really need to address this issue.
I think we stand a good a chance as any of the next biggest 3 clubs in England in getting him although London may be a big draw for him.
I think it's disgusting how Zahivi has got his dirty mits on Dos Santos. The kid is still very young, still yet to develop and should not be looking to move just yet. Zahivi is filling this kids head with all sorts of nonsense.

It wouldn't be the end of the world for him to stay at Barca and develop his game under the tutelage of Ronahldinio, Henry and Messi.
He might be looking at someone like Fabregas however and feel impatient.
The problem is that he will never get enough playing time as long as Henry, Messi, Ronaldinho, Deco and Eto'o plays for Barca.
Barca need to sell one or two of their galacticos if they want to keep players like Dos Santos and Krkic.
Have we ever done any deals with Zahavi or does his involvement with Dos Santos mean that he will be going to Utd or Chelsea as he has dealt with them so frequently.

The problem is that they need to play to reach their full potential. Not to much because then they will only get injured, maybe 10-15 games this season and a little more next one. If they play to much then they will get injury problems in a few years time because they played to much to early.
I can't see Barca giving them the playing time they need without selling one or two of their attacking players.

New Liverpool signing Yossi Benayoun is already getting frustrated by the lack of first team action, and is ready to consider a switch to a "medium-sized team" in order to play regularly.
The Premiership season may have only just begun, but Yossi Benayoun is already beginning to get frustrated.
The prospect of spending a majority of the season on the bench is beginning to get to him, and his agent, while admitting that Rafa Benitez had asked for patience at the time of signing, has confirmed that the player will consider a move away if he does not feature enough.
