With the departures of Cole and Campbell I am now struggling to think of one decent English or British (or even English speaking) player on their books.

I have a feeling that this could be their most difficult season in a long long time.

At the same time I must admist that I respect Gallas immensely. He did not like being at Chelsea for quite some time and most probably disagreed and even disrespected Moronho, and stood his ground. Nice to see this happening at the chavs!

Forgot about young Theo!
Just asked a gooners supporter here in the office and he mentioned some other bloke who I have never heard of.....he figures there are 2 english lads in the Arse first team squad

Gael Clichy will be Cole's replacement there but he is at injured at the moment. He is a good player IMO.

i think gallas + 5 million is not a good deal for arsenal, they should at least been given 8 or 10 million + gallas...

gallas is not worth more that 5 million imo

Gallas was in his final year of his contract, but Cole's head wasn't in the right place for him to ever play for Arsenal again. Arsenal have got a decent amount of money for him, and an excellent central defender while having good cover for the LB position.

I'd imagine that Wenger is laughing over his croissants this morning.

Coles not worth 20million though.Cole Probably around 12 and Gallas 7. It suited both clubs. Although heard Maureen is fuming about the deal. Sold over his head allegedly

i'd disagree cac - he has lost a very important first team player, who was young, english and one of the best left backs in the world. Fair enough he wasn't happy but he was worth more than that. Ok they took gallas in exchange - but recently they have lost Cole, Campbell, Pires, Vieira, reyes.

OK - what kind of player did Arsenal need more?

A (allegedly) world class Left Back - when they have Clichy and others that can play that position.

Or, one of the best CBs in the league?

I for one think that Arsenal have got by far the better deal. Once Clichy recovers that can put out a defence of:

Eboue - Toure - Gallas - Clichy

It's incredibly fast, strong and with Gallas there they have somebody to hold it all together.

On the other hand, Chelsea's defence is suddenly looking for suspect. They didn't desperately need Cole, especially as Bridge is good in that position.

Its Bridge I feel sorry for. All of a sudden he is cover for Cole and IMO Bridge is a good player. Maybe not as good as Cole but certainly too good to sit on the bench all season as a back up.

It's another Kenyon/Roman transfer, rather than a Mourinho transfer! Hope it rocks their boat somemore.

Theres not a lot to pick from between cole and bridge. my personal preference if i had to pick one would be wayne bridge, I think hes just a touch better. But if he can stop getting injured all the time, arsenal have a better left back than the pair of them in gael clichy. hes gonna be an excellent player that lad. Chelsea will REALLY miss gallas big-time, no wonder bellwhiff was fuming. He knows more than anyone that gallas was there best defender by a country mile.

Get a grip lads...

-------Henry
--------Van Persie
Hleb---------------Rosicky
----Fabregas-Gilberto
Clichy-Gallas-Toure-Eboue
---------Lehman

Not to mention, Baptista, Walcott, Adebayour, Senderos, Ljunberg etc

They'll be immense in a year or two.
