On January 28, 2006, one day before his fortieth birthday, he scored his 950th goal (official FIFA count). He is currently pursuing the figure 1,000 goals, a mark officially obtained only by legendary Pelé.

i havent done the sums to be fair, but them goals figures at first glance dont look like they add up to 950.
Agreed on romario though, he is without doubt one of the finest players i have ever seen, up there with pele, cruyff, maradona, salif diao etc:handshake:

it was interesting to see his name there:D

what I liked about Romario was not only his ability but his balance, He sort of floated. He also had a really nice arrogance about him.

Professional club appearances and goals
counted for the domestic league only and

from wiki, so no cups, or european games or friendlies...

paulcooper4

think theses are in official games, not including friendlies, or some thing like that...
you cant include friendlies, surely?? or you just pick a friendly against the local school team to boost up your goals tally.

Agree there, dont think we`ll ever see a player with his centre of balance again. and the way he used to turn on a sixpence.
Was a joy to watch:handshake:

"1988-1992 PSV Eindhoven 167 (165)"

WOW. That's a hell of a ratio.

Saw him play for Vasco against Fluminense earlier this year. Didn't move around much! The crowd still loved him though.

Most beautiful player ever? Romario's not ugly, but I don't think he had the ladies fainting at the mere sight of him.

Friedenriech scored 1239 goals in his career. There are a few others that scored over a thousand as well, I just can't remember who they are.

Don't think so, pretty sure they were people that I've never heard of. I think there was four in total. There is a missprint somewhere on the web that says Friederriech got 1329 goals, which puts him ahead of Pele, but it should be actually 1239 goals in 1329 games. I can't remember where I go that from though, but I do remember having a long pedantic discussion with someone about it before. It was fun *coughs*.

Well Pele's 1000 includes about 100 he scored in special exhibition matches against teams through Brazil. Last year in a move of great class (although probably not unreasonable really) Romario was trying to have them discounted.

Lol

For some reason that absolutely cracked me up.

Seriousyl though, goals in exhibition matches etc - shows how arbitrary these figures are. His goals record in top flight football though is astonishing
