    USA for Euro 2008 [R]

The USA just beat the Euro co-hosts Switzerland 1-0 in Basel on a Michael Bradley goal in the 84th minute.

    Put us in the Euros!

Well, if they're serious about a Super Bowl in London, why not?!?!

Well, seeing as you guys are so good to as to host the "world series", involving, errr, the whole world, then I think that's a fine idea

Therefore I lied to please the mob.

Baseball teams who win the World Series are called the World Champions.

Am I missing something here? When is it a world competition?

If I can make myself a cup of coffee before the adverts end, then by a deal I just made with myself I'm Champion of the World.*

*See also 'that time I threw a ball of paper the length of the room and into the bin', 'that time I brushed my teeth before the adverts ended during Letterman', and 'running to the shop and back for milk during the adverts last Sunday' for past wins.

They call it the World Series because in 1903 when the American League played the National League the US was the only country that played baseball. With all the immigrants coming too the US in the late 18/early 1900's the rosters were a diverse mix of ancestries. Hence the name 'World Series'

The idea of English league football was based on how the baseball league in the US was setup

Actually it evolved from a number of different European bat and ball games such as Lapta which dates back to the early 14th century Russia, townball from Germany and Rounders/Cricket
