    bentley

    according to sportingo
The hacks are as busy as ever churning out their rumours and gossip, but it's anyone's guess if any of it is genuine news. Manchester City, Manchester United, Everton, Chelsea and Blackburn also feature in this bulletin.
Arsenal fans are probably sick and tired of rumours linking their teenage sensation Cesc Fabregas to a move back to Spain. Well, I am sorry to say those pesky tabloids are at it again. Apparently Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon will attempt a world-record £50m raid to lure the Gunners midfielder at the end of the season (various).

If anyone is going to move for such a fee, then there are not many players better deserving than Cesc. After all, he is one of the best players on the planet and, at 20, has already featured in more than150 top-level games. Time and again Fabregas has made it clear he wants to stay but I guess his desire to remain at the Emirates is probably matched by the keenness displayed by both Real, and to a lesser extent Barcelona, to sign him.

Calderon added: "I would be very happy to see him in the Madrid shirt. It is important to always hope for such a thing." This speculation will probably follow the Arsenal No.4 for some time and is part and parcel of having such a fantastic prospect on your books. Fortunately, Fabregas seems to have his head screwed on right and the north London club don’t really need the money from the potential sale. So I don't expect them to accept a deal anyway.

Over at Spurs, another three potential targets are doing the rounds today. We start with Ajax midfielder Hedwiges Maduro, who is out of contract in the summer and is refusing to sign a new one - and therefore may be the subject of a relatively cheap £3m move next month (Daily Star).

The 22-year-old Dutch international will be one of Tottenham chief Damien Comolli’s main targets when the transfer window opens in a few days time. Maduro is a quality player and a hot prospect and it would make more sense to try to capture him now, before the free-for-all starts come the end of the season. Man City, Everton and Man United are also interested in Maduro.

Another target comes in the large shape of Lazio defender Guglielmo Stendardo, who is available after a huge row with coach Delio Rossi left him surplus to requirements at the Rome club. The Serie A side are still thought to be demanding £6-8m for 26-year-old Stendardo, who is on the fringes of the Italian national side. AC Milan have also made moves for him.

Thirdly we have Valencia's recently-released international goalkeeper Santiago Canizares, who is apparently being tracked by Spurs and Chelsea (various). The four-time La Liga winner, now 38, is keen to come to England for his last hoorah - and even though Paul Robinson has recovered form of late, Juande Ramos may look to bring in the veteran to keep Robbo on his toes. Meanwhile, Chelsea may see Santiago as back-up for Petr Cech.

Rumours are circulating that Liverpool's Rafa Benitez may be interested in making a £10m bid for Blackburn midfielder David Bentley (various), with the former Arsenal man also a target for La Liga duo Atletico Madrid and Valencia.

The 23-year-old England international is having a good season at Ewood Park and, much like fellow Rovers midfielder Morten Gamst Pedersen, has been attracting a great deal of interest. However I don’t think this rumour holds up. Anfield has a great deal of quality in the areas Bentley plies his trade and I feel he won't easily be let go by Mark Hughes, who is looking to bring his side on from mid-table to UEFA Cup candidates.

pls let it be true....the guy has bags of skill , pace to burn...immense workrate and a much cheaper option compared to quaresama. a swap with pennant +cash would do just fine

I really doubt Hughes would take Pennant, he doesn't seem like a Hughes type of player.

If we want Bentley I think we'll have to spend 10M or more on him, and I'd be surprised if we can afford that and Mascher.

In today's market Blackburn would want considerably more than £10million. Class player though and much better than any winger we currently have.

Decent player, but I am not fully convinced he would make it in a top team. Maybe a big fish in a small pond syndrome.

100% agree with you. Would be another decent squad player/ promising youngster

We already have many of those. Time to sign another world class player to strengthen the team.

he's vastly over rated. a motd player if there ever was one. he's not got what it takes to make it at a top level. the only reason his name is even mentioned is cause he's english, i agree he's a decent player at that level but we need something much better to cover our wing. he's not much better than pennant who stood out from a crappy team himself before he came here.
