Tendulkar smashes ton on comeback
One-day series, Kuala Lumpur:
India 309-5 (50 overs) v West Indies

Sachin Tendulkar marked his first full innings after six months out with his 40th one-day century as India hit 309-5 against West Indies in Kuala Lumpur.

Tendulkar made 141 off 148 balls, with four of his five sixes crashed near the end as 78 came in the last seven overs.

He put on 75 with skipper Rahul Dravid and 125 with Irfan Pathan (64).

Jerome Taylor took three wickets and got big-hitters Virender Sehwag and Mahendra Dhoni cheaply but Suresh Raina (34) and Tendulkar ended in a flourish.

The 33-year-old underwent shoulder surgery in March and, although he returned briedly in the aborted series in Sri Lanka, this was his first big test.

Sporting an elbow brace, he could have been out on just five but wicket-keeper Carlton Baugh failed to hold on after Fidel Edwards got one to shape away and find his outside edge.

It was a costly error as the Mumbai maestro punished anything straying in length or direction, signalling his intentions by lofting a short ball from Dwayne Smith over the square-leg fence for his first six.

Dravid, who had won the toss, also looked in good form before Smith angled one in which kept a bit low and won an lbw verdict.

Tendulkar brushed that and a 20-minute rain delay off to reach 50 off 67 balls and 100 off 119 deliveries.

Pathan provided good support with two maximums and six fours in his 68-ball knock but when Chris Gayle bowled him and Taylor beat Sehwag and Dhoni with two balls which also kept low, the scoring slowed.

Raina provided fresh impetus and Tendulkar the swagger as Taylor and Dwayne Bravo came in for punishment towards the end.
