    Captain Gerrard

Are we at a disadvantage having Gerrard as our captain rather than Carra? It's not unknown that when things are not going our way, he likes a bit of a sulk and moan rather than geeing up the players which has obvious effects on the morale of the lads on the field.

If Carra was our captain would things be different? Gerrard IMO should be club captain and Carra on the field captain.

    eh?????????????

that would totally undermine the club captains position and basically say he's not up to sorting the team out during a game

    think again

The sulking has got worse as the season rolls on. It must be so frustrating for him but at a 100,000 a week he has to cop it sweet and set an even greater example in these tough times.

I agree completely.Gerrard can be inspirational when he's charging into the box etc, but you rarely see him freaking at team mates when the chips are down (albeit he did score in Turkey!) but is prone to have a moaning look about him (non sexual). Carra is much more of a leader on the pitch imo and can be regularly seen bollicking anyone. Also, SG's comments off the p1tch (inc. recently citing the ownership issue as a reason for their poor run of form) are in stark contrast to Carra's interviews. That said, stripping SG of the captaincy would cause chaos - he shouldn't have been appointed so hastily..

Can this question be asked yet?
            Francis.

...."Any team that concedes as few goals as we concede is going to be tough to play against..." - Fernando Torres on Liverpool

And when I say 'play Gerrard on the left', I mean on the left

            A defensive mid for £18m?

Gerrard is the best choice at the club to be captain. Would be foolish to drop him. But it's never gonna happen so I'll not bother arguing this one.

I think SG too selfish to be a great captain. At the moment I think he has realised we are out of the title race and sulking because another year has passed and he is no closer to getting a premiership medal. This is effecting him and all the players who look up to him.
                Dare we believe

What makes you say he is? I certainly havn't seen it this year. I DO see Carra trying to get them going and organise from the back though.

gerrard leads through his play, he's not an organiser or a verbal motivator. Didn't he once admit as much, I think he said something like "Carra is the real leader on the pitch"

To be honest, would it really make us a better team if someone else had the armband on?

Houllier did it to curry favour with the fans and raise the game of Gerrard. It worked.

Can't see what giving Carra the armband would do, other than bring down the morale of Gerrard.

                      Foolish move.

                        I agree with that.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

It is at times like this where you would notice the difference. Never underestimate the importance of a good leader.

Being a decent bloke doesn't always make you a great captain either.

Carragher is too much of an 'untouchable' right now as it is, making him captain would compound that. He's not been great this season.

Do you need a piece of cotton on your arm to make you a leader?

                              No.
