I was just wondering if we could put together a team of big(ish) money players that all failed miserably in the premiership?

To start off:

Taibi

????
Boumsong
Bramble
????

Luque
Veron
????
Diouf

Morientes
Forlan

Feel free to fill the gaps or suggest alternatives.....

Cisse must take the place of Morientes. Cost over twice as much. Diouf has done alright at Bolton so probably can't be there.

Balaban cost £6m didn't me? Sold for literally pennies.

Vincente, Materazzi?

Debateable - he cost twice as much but scored more than twice as money. So as a striker I'd say he was better value for money.

Mutu, Reyes, Kezman, Nugent, Jeffers

Darrent Bent's on his way.

Chris Sutton, Winston Bogarde..

God, there's shit loads.

Mutu wasn't he £16m and then sacked for his drug abuse? He wasn't really shit though.

Wouldnt class Sutton or Reys as flops myself, unless you count one season wonders :handshake:

Winston Bogarde - I can't remember if Chelsea got him on a free but still paid him massive wages and he hardly played. Also Manchester City's Matias Vuoso who was Forlans strike parner before he joined Manure coste them £6 or £7 million and I don't think he ever played. Helder Postiga also cost spurs about £6 million and didn't do anything apart from score against England in Euro 2004.

Zenden must be a shoe-in for the left wing position. How much did he cost chelsea - 10m????

£7m I think, but I'd have him on the left in this team. Exceptional mediocrity :haha:

Ace player. Did chelsea manage to sue him?

Don't know, but he was crap for Fiorentina yesterday! :haha: Christian Vieri looks about 45 too....

Steve Marlet - £12m!!!

Jeffers and Marlet have to be in with a shout up front, Rebrov too and possibly considering the values of the transfer Shevchenko.

Richard Wright should be in there. Per Koldrup's surely worthy of a place in the matchday squad.

Add Coraddo Grabi to the list - didn't Souey pay about £7M for him and he lasted one season? And couldn't score for toffee? Or what about Stephane Gui'varche? Another Newcastle flop (did nothing apart from score against us - wonder how many other shit players we're generous to). Or Andreas Andersson.

Then, as my City supporting mate always reminds me, there's "Buster" Phillips (think this was his name). Alan Ball brought him in and declared he would be the first £10M player - only for him to end up at Exeter a few months later :D

Didn't Grabbi score against us? I'm sure he did. He went on the already long list of really wank strikers who never ever scored against anybody but us...

Grabbi
Facundo Sava (hat-trick!) :shake:
Kevin Lisbie (hat-trick!) :shake:
Helder Postiga
Forlan
Szilard Nemeth
Casiraghi (only goal for Chelsea)
Michael Proctor

There are tons more. Happens all the time.

One of my favourite goals of all time, purely for the comedy factor as babb wraps his sweetbreads around the post in an attempt to stop the ball going over the line. :haha::haha:

Didn't Newcastle buy a Spanish CB for about £5m and he only play about twice? Can't for the life of me remember his name - it was about 4 years ago (maybe more).

Marcelino or something?!

Djemba-Djemba, even a more laughable signing than Diao.

He was a big flop at Villa so I guess you could.

Frannie Jeffers, Stefan Guiv'arch and Kevin Davies (Blackburn) all spring to mind.

Duff and Crespo weren't flops.

Duff did very well in his first two seasons at Chelsea. He was their best player in Ranieri's last season and he and Robben were excellent when Maureen won his first title.

Crespo didn't get much of a chance at Chelsea but when he did play he had a very good scoring ratio. He didn't get much of a chance to shine but he is no flop.

10 mill for Richard Wright?

Ok may have been a bit harsh about Duff being a complete flop but when Chelski saw the chance to get rid of him they bit Newcastles hands off.
As for Cerespo, I dont think he really set Chelski or the league on fire.

Bit harsh on Casiraghi. His leg fell off after somthing like 5 games for the Chavs and he was forced to retire;

I have said it before and I will say it 1 last time -> 26 goals in 53 starts for Pool is not flop status!!
