U's fans deserve success - Quinn

    Cambridge United that is
    from the BBC

Cambridge United boss Jimmy Quinn hailed his side's support following their play-off victory over Burton.

United squeezed past the Brewers 2-1 (4-3 agg) to reach the final of the Blue Square Premier play-offs.

Quinn was delighted with the backing his side received from their home supporters during the game.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "The fans were fantastic. It's unbelievable. It's not the biggest club in the world, but the support is here."

Two strikes from Rob Wolleaston, either side of Daryl Clare's equaliser for Burton, were enough to secure the win for the U's in front of a near capacity crowd at the Trade Recruitment Stadium.

The final whistle was greeted by jubilant scenes with fans spilling out onto the pitch to celebrate their side reaching Wembley for the first time since winning the Division Four play-off final in 1990.

Quinn told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I was delighted to be on the pitch with them at the end to see the smiles on peoples' faces.

"You can see that they haven't had a bit of success for a while and I think every one of them's going to enjoy the day when we go down to Wembley."

The U's will meet Exeter in the Blue Square Premier play-off final on Sunday, 18 May.

I wanted to see Torquay come up as I've got some family from down there.

Cambridge have done excellently though. They were really struggling last year so a second place finish and a play off final appearance is a fantastic achievement.

Good luck to them and Exeter. Both fell through the trapdoor so its good to see one of them coming back up.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

They have done excellently, especially as the one time I have seen them this season they were terrible and at one point I believe they had four strikers out injured.

Who did you play for? I never played for the Swavesey Spartans and only intermittently for the school teams after in secondary school. I played for Bar Hill for a few seasons though.

I'm thinking of going to the final with my dad too. Promises to be a great day out.

Tickets start at £30 with £3 booking fee and £5.50 for postage, they're only available directly through Wembley......What a rip off!

That is a bit steep but it is still less than a lot of less important games in the capital.

But the best part of £40 to watch non-league footy!? I'd rather spend the same money and go to Anfield for an extra game next season.

In a way but a/ it's a final and b/ the travelling up adds to the cost of a Liverpool game and my dad has no interest in coming to Liverpool. I can see why it isn't worth it for others.

Yeah, some of my mates from work had a nightmare trying to get tickets.
