is this an effort to keep us from Keane and land one of the best strikers in the League?

Manchester United have made a £20m bid for the Tottenham Hotspur forward Dimitar Berbatov, according to reports last night. United are prepared to offer the Bulgarian wages of £80,000 a week to bring him into an attack that could be depleted by the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.
Sir Alex Ferguson is said to want a deal concluded within the next week and his ambitions are being backed by United's owners, the Glazer family, and chief executive, David Gill.
Spurs have insisted throughout the summer that they value Berbatov at around £30m but are likely to settle for less for the striker, who would relish a move to Old Trafford after two years at White Hart Lane. Tottenham also need resources to fund their £9.5m pursuit of the Espanyol forward Luis Garcia.
Wouldnt bother me. He is over-rated in my opinion. Good Striker but nowhere near world class. Torres and Ronaldo are 3 times better than him

How old is Berba?

He's 27.
I think the mancs desperately need a winger, especially if Ronaldo leaves. Berbatov would be a good luxury signing for them, nothing more.
better player than keane
:handshake:
If they sign him ye may as well give the scumbags the title now.
Well they've already got it but you know what i mean.

Agree 100%. He might not have the workright for a Rafa type player, but the little work he does do could be the difference between us losing/drawing to the Scum, Chelski & Arse and us beating them. Not only did he score more than 20 goals in all comps last season, but I think he got somewhere near 20 assists as well - amazing!

I beg to differ.
Berbatov in, Fake Ronaldo out = weakens them, not strengthens imo. Not by a lot, but loathe him or really loathe him, Ronaldo will be impossible to replace, even with a striker as decent as Berbatov.
thats brilliant news!!!
must mean ronaldo is being sold.....and if so, they could have got a lot better than berbatov imo.
Not brilliant news. I want us to sign Robbie Keane, he would be a superb partner for Torres.
If the Mancs get Berbatov then we can forget Keane

Unless Keane puts a transfer request and forces Ramos`s hand.
Regardless i can't see spurs selling both at this stage. How will they replace 2 1st choice top class strikers so close to the new season?

Just looks like united have good owners to me. even though their £800m in debt they the owners still have the clout and balls to sanction £25m+ buys. If we were in that position and we sold torres for £80m i just know that most of it would go into G&H back pockets and rafa would prob get £5 to £10m out of it. God i hate these fuckwits and i hate david moores even more.

It doesnt necessarily mean Ronaldo is being sold. They can quite easily afford to sign Berbatov without selling Ronaldo.

of course they can, but do you think they can keep ronaldo, tevez, rooney and berbatov, presuming saha would be sold, happy?

If you take Saha out of the equation I think they would all get their fair share of games. I fucking hope they dont get him mind, that is one lethal strikeforce they have there already, and he would add an extra dimension that they dont currently have.
28 million. fuck. whether u like em or not you've got to admire how they go out and get their targets. aren't they also in for some south american winger?
berbatov going there means it will be very unlikely that keane will also leave

whenever he has played against us I have always been underwhelemd by him, mecurical does not even begin to describe him.

A guy I know (I'm not calling him my mate) who supports United said he wouldn't like Berbatov because of his lack of work rate. Interesting. I think United will have to change patterns of play, tactics to accommodate Berbatov.
Dont get me wrong i think Berbatov is a class act and will make United a better team but with him and Rooney up front there's not a great deal of pace their.
Rooney's quick enough but he's not really the kind to stretch a defence with his lightening speed the way a Torres or Drogba would.

Might as well just sign Andy Garcia and call it a day.
