Did we miss a trick signing this fella in the summer. We've discussed real RW options and this article basically says, that he really needs to be managed to be at his best. given Rafa's team's record of getting the most out of people, could we have had a brilliant right winger at an affordable price?

He reminds me of gerrard in the 'needs to be loved' bit - althought the mothers milk story is a bit off point isnt it... And I know rafa is a manager who tends to distance himself but it seems the team around him are the ones to get close to the players and in the end we usually get the best out of players.

anyway, i think Joaquin will be back to his best shortly and i think we missed out.

Legend....thats a bit of an exaggeration isn't it.

Fair do's Dirk splits opinion, but legend, seriously?

it really wasnt meant to be a pop at kuyt or anything like that. love the bloke and i genuinely appreciate what he brings to the team.

i just think that shortly - over the next couple of seasons, he - or his position - will be the one under the microscope when we need to upgrade our attacking threat and that he will either be benched or play in the keane role.

as i see it, Joaqin seemed to just go downhill more than the others when valencia were in crisis. before and after he seems to be a top drawer dedicated, pacey right winger that can score.

I always thought he was a moody inconsistent git who gave up as soon as anyone kicked him. A good player but I would suggest he would be horribly ill suited to the PL.

Joaquin has started the season well. With wingers, its difficult to say whether they can sustain their form throughout the season.

Joaquin's a weird one, he's not of slight build like David Silva and you'd think he should be able to take a few kicks, but you're right, he cries like a baby whenever he's booted and i think it's down to his mentality rather than his physical stature.

Good player when on song but is far too inconsistent and dare i say lazy, he certainly doesnt get through enough work to be what id consider a Rafa type player anyway.

Say what you want about Dirk, he'll get at least 12 goals this season from right midfield.
Not many would offer that.

Dirk's value is difficult to measure (even though he is our highest placed player in the actim index).

How do you value someone who prevents opponents attacks? Less attacks = less goals conceded, surely, which = more points, surely?

How do you value winning back the ball in the opponents 3rd vs. winning it back in your own half? More attempts on goal = more goals, surely?

How do you value (for example) an extra 5-10-15% of possession due to his work rate of winning back the ball? More possession = more goals, surely?

I agree with you El Jef...

However, I for one would like to see Dirk run on the wing and attack the full backs more often, whipping in inswingers like what Riera provides on the left.

Not everyone will agree, but what a great post IMO

Although to suit my own bias I suggest we use the Actim index until someone comes up with something better :D

I'm not sure there is much point in Dirk running on the wing and attacking the fullback like a winger - it's just not his strength. I would however like him to aim to be crossing more as he is good at that - although part of the problem may be that there is rarely anyone high up in the box for us early in attack sand Riera doesn't attack the back post the way Kuyt himself has been doing this season.

If so then the "Legend" status is 100% warranted. Fair fucking play. :handshake:

He also runs a foundation to help disadvantaged children... and unlike with some footballers and this sort of thing its not even remotely a publicity stunt.

I would say (all competitions) that he might well do. It is a brave man who would be as sure as Johnny though given the oscillating goalscoring form the man has shown for us in general.

Pennant is coming back from his loan spell at the end of the season, so I'd say we don't need him. :handshake:

Yes, didn't you hear, as a last favor to the club, Rick Parry has secured a pre-contract agreement with Pennant, giving him a hefty signing on fee believed to be around £4mill. It's on the offal.

I'd take a punt for a reasonable fee. Joaquin is unplayable when his head is on.

Pablo Hernandez is a quality little player also...we should be sniffing around Valencia bigtime this summer.

Is that Pablo Hernandex the guy who came off the bench yesterday for Valencia and scored that amazing goal? If so, he definately looks quite talented.
