View Full Version : How friggin thick are they
I honestly can't believe this. How friggin stupid are they? :haha:
"The players do get sleep coaching,’’ confirmed a United spokesman of the involvement of Nick Littlehales, a former Slumberland employee who also assists Arsenal.

Manchester United have turned to a sleep expert in their bid for glory this season, with players receiving home visits and getting professional tips on how to sleep. (The S*n)
Nothing wrong with that to be honest. Sleeping well is an important part of fitness both physically and mentally.
It's not like they can't afford it so why not?
They won the double last year - so not that thick

The question is, why are you quoting from that shit rag?
What is it that the British cycling people talk about the "accumulation of marginal gains"?
Even if you blank out part of the name, this story is still from that shit rag.

It's a fair point - I've changed the original post to point to the same story in the Telegraph.

For me much the same applies for squad development. The closer you get to perfection the harder and smaller those marginal gains are.
If they really want to sleep then I'd have thought most footballers' "autobiographies" would probably do it.
It's probably about eduction as well, what to drink what not to drink before bedtime.

Sorry for quoting the rag. I thought meerly blanking out part was acceptable. Please forgive my oversite. :handshake:
I stand by my original sentiment though.. Loose up guys, teaching someone how to sleep! You don't think that's just a little strange ! What next, come on :shake:

Don't you think there was probably much the same reaction in some quarters when Wenger and other coaches started to revolutionize players' diets? It only takes a newspaper to twist it a certain way - for instance "teaching players how to eat" - and it sounds a bit silly. Yet look at the results.

Sportsman and "diets" go hand in hand. It's of paramount importance to eat right, of that their is no question.
This teaching players how to sleep all sounds a bit "swami" new agey to me

Well, if you've ever had a kid amd had the whole first few weeks thing where you're lucky to get 4 hours sleep a night you'll know how important to health sleep is.
And if you've ever laid awake at night trying to drop off and failing you'll know it's about far more than going to bed early.
Certain foods, drinks and activity makes sleeping harder and sometimes sleeping less effective.
And as I say, end of day, with so much money at stake if there's even a small chance it will help why the heck not? Every little bit helps.
A player more alert stopping 1 goal or scoring 1 that he'd have otherwise missed can make a massive difference.

Doesn't for me unfortunately. It's usually when I'm particularly busy at work and struggle to switch off, all I can do is stay up until I can no longer stay awake.
I can only imagine what it's like when you've just had a bad game where you made a few mistakes and you're coming up to the game that can make or break your season, and it's live on TV, and you know fans will be giving you gip etc...
It would be fairly stressful and assistance in overcoming the stress and sleeping would be worthwhile.

Yes but if it was labelled "educating players about how to maximise the effectiveness of their rest periods" then it might sound a bit less New Age and rather more "sports science-y".

Alcohol can stop you going into a dream state. You sleep long and heavily but it's not good quality fully restive sleep.
So maybe the sleep expert could be of help ;)
