anybody hear this
Rafa Benitez is set to solve his right midfield problem by swooping for Bayer Leverkusen's Brazillian star Renato Augusto. Touted as one of the best ever products of Flamengo's youth academy Augusto signed for Leverkusen for an undisclosed fee last summer.
The Brazilian youth international is eager to move to the English Premiership and sees Liverpool's enquiry as the ideal escape route, particularly as Brazillian compatriots Fabio Aurelio, Lucas Leiva and Diego Cavalleri are at Anfield.
Renato could cost up to £10 million, however Rafa Benitez is hoping to raise the bulk of the money by selling Jermaine Pennant in the January transfer window, who has Tottenham, Stoke and Blackburn
No, I've not heard of this.
The value of Pennant seems to have shot up, only the other day he was off on a free come the end of the season.

We do need a RW, especially as Kuyt seems to be drifting back to being a striker.........
kuyt, a striker? :haha: what a silly thing to believe. i honestly don't think even kuyt thinks he's a striker.:handshake:
i'd rather we played babel more often on the right rather than waste more money on a tomorrows superstar who'll hardly ever get a game.

Well he was a pretty prolific striker in Dutch football, take his last 4 seasons in the Dutch first division
Played 38 Scored 25
Played 44 Scored 36
Played 40 Scored 22
Played 40 Scored 23
I think we'd all take him scoring that number each season for us, in my opinion he just isn't a good enough striker for the Premier league

We were linked with this guy summer '07, somehow though I find it quite hard to believe Leverkusen would sell him when he's only been there a few months, unless it was for a very tidy profit, apparently they paid ~10m euros, and its not like we're flush for cash.
No idea how he's been doing in Germany but he was really highly rated in Brazil not so long ago.

Was rated in Brazil many years ago - I'm not sure whether he is in Dunga's plans.
Renato is quite versatile and has been touted by many clubs in Europe, whether he is good enough, I don't know....
well seeing as we will have sod all money to spend in Jan....

neither do i. the dutch league is no comparison, kuyt should never play centre forward for us ever.

thing is, when we bought him, he was one of the most prolific strikers in europe. Torres aside (sheer World Class talent), and possibly Crouch (given his height he couldnt play RW), I just dont think Rafa knows what to do with strikers. Time and again he has bought expensive strikers and seems to end up pushing them out wide right. When that doesnt work out he does ship them out quickly but then the next man comes in and its like groundhog day again.
did keane even start as striker? i remember a rafa interview where he thought keane could play on the left.
we really need torres back asap. i'd even buy owen who i also think could lead the line in a 4231 and play alongside torres far better than any of our current strikers.
in the context of a right sided midfielder i'm really frustrated that we haven't addressed this position yet. it was a priority since rafa arrived with the likes of gerrard, cisse and now kuyt playing there. but i'd rather buy someone proven who plays there naturally than someone who could do a job there. a january signing would be good there but i only see this happening if we manage to offload pennant

Yep, a direct replacement for Pennant would be nice, a proper right sided winger who could compete with Kuyt depending on the type of game, opposition and formation on any given day. Kuyt I think is worth his place on the right in a 4-2-3-1 style formation, but in a 4-4-2 he isn't really, and needs proper competition from a real right winger, preferably one who is actually good!
Not too sure about him but the likes of Lennon perhaps, or that Kuba guy whose actual name is unpronounceable :)

Bayer expected Reds' Renato interest.

Bayer Leverkusen general manager Michael Reschke has confirmed interest from abroad in alleged Liverpool target Renato Augusto.
The former Flamengo youngster is tipped for a bright future and Reschke believes it is inevitable clubs like Liverpool are monitoring his progress.
After only signing for the Bundesliga club last year, Bayer are reluctant to even consider losing the 20-year-old attacking midfielder.
"The fact that a player like Renato Augusto awakens desire in other clubs was always clear," Reschke told Express.
"A transfer is not open to debate for us. I had a long chat with the player before Christmas.
"Renato feels happy about us at Bayer and wants to make the step up to the Brazilian national team.
"The boy is facing a great career ahead of him. Should he leave eventually, he can choose where he wants to go."

Spurs I would say.
Looks like Kuyt could be off. Not offered a new deal yet and we are looking at a few right wingers.

Never say never. He almost sold Xabi last summer and he was one of the untouchable players.
Rafa will do whatever it takes to make the team better.

Rafa Benitez has made an official enquiry for Brazilian right midfielder Renato Augusto according to a selection of reports from the German press. The Bayer Leverkusen star has been tracked by Benitez for the last month, and the young starlet, thought of by some as one of the best products to come out of the Flamengo youth academy in the last decade, is said to be keen to move to Anfield.
With Jermaine Pennant set to move on, with a number of clubs interested including A.C Milan and Real Madrid, Benitez sees Renato as the ideal replacement as the tricky winger would be eligible to play in the Champions League.
Renato is valued between £10 and £15 million, and would join a Liverpool squad which already includes compatriots Lucas, Fabio Aurelio and Diego Cavalleri.
has looked a good player from times ive seen him (not much mind)
Where is the money gonna come from to pay for him though?
Skillful, quick, strong, can cross and can score. Sounds about right to me
What kind of player is this lad? Is he quick? Can he beat a man? Is he a get-to-the-bye-line-and-put-in-a-cross or cut-in-and-shoot type of winger? Is he tricky? Direct? As you can probably tell I've never seen him play :D
Since Rafa has said he's not looking to buy or sell anyone in January and with us apparently not having much money i just don't see this deal happening, at least at the prices quoted.

No indication of when the deal is being done for - could well be a summer signing - in which case the money would come from next seasons budget.

I could see this being a summer signing as dww said. We would need to shift a heck load of players to get to £10m +

IF we were to sell Dossena and Pennant we wouldn't be too far off £10m.
Big if though.

No. No money.
£15m for Keane would change that.
He aint really a winger, he's better off the front or 'in the hole'.
He isn't that good either.
