View Full Version : "Pay-To-Throw" - Don't we pay enough council tax?

Wonder how much this initiative cost. In my last place i have a brown bin, blue bin, a green bin and a bottle green box for glass.
So how does it coincide with that recycling initiative. Oh, and that was Dundee City Council. Which was as CT rates go absurdly high for the shite-hole it is. Not in Dundee catchment anymore FTR.
The more i think about the the more absurd it becomes. You'll have people tipping stuff in other peoples bins i.e. it will only work in rural areas. What happens to the access that are still in plastic bags. Wouldn't it be easier to attach a weighing device to the truck as opposed to each fucking bin (as they get stolen as it is - students etc).
How this story got out is beyond me!
I think perhaps its probably the bbc thats got it wrong, I think the measurement device etc would be on the lorry, its probably an RFID chip that would be in the bin.
I.E. each bin has a unique number, but knowing how councils work sometimes, you'll end up with the wrong person getting a bill, and people will be billed stupid amounts like 50p when the work involved in producing the bill will have cost the council £5 or something.
The story was being discussed by James Whale on TalkSport a couple of weeks ago.
Surely it is a breach of privacy to start fitting chips like that to bins on peoples property. I checked mine for one the other day, but couldn't see one. Will be checking regularly though :source:

The chip will definitely be on the bin. As I said heard this story before. Unless they got it wrong as well.

hmmmm
I guess it is kinda fair if they can work it properly.
And recycling has to be encouraged.
If they could work it properly, i would have no problem with it.

I see still a farce though - count administration alone would make it an exercise in futility, especially considering the number of recycling bins they're proposing etc.

Simple just go at night and fill other peoples bins :handshake: or take the chip out modify it.

We have loads of bins!
A red box thing for paper, junkmail, clothes shoes etc etc (collected weekly)
A blue box for bottles, cans, jars etc (collected weekly)
A brown bin for garden waste, cardboard and dog shit altho dog shit isn't allowed in it (collected fortnightly). When my other bin is full I put rubbish in here and cover up with grass. In the summer this bin is not big enough cos my garden is so big, one mow and it's full.
A black bin for all other rubbish - collected fortnightly. Which is ridiculous! It's always overflowing about 4 days before collection. I've started to pay some cleaners to disinfect it fortnightly cos the smell is terrible. in the summer everyone's bins were full of maggots cos they weren't collected often enough. If they can collect bins three times a week in countries like Spain then they should do it here!
I also have a Purple Bin - used in the back garden to keep all the footballs and stuff in and a Purple Recylcing Bin which is in the garage with stuff in it.
If I want a bigger Black Bin I have to have a baby! 5 people or more and you get a bigger bin.

We dont really throw much out, me and my dad genrally eat it all, we buy fresh stuff so i mostly cook everything so it all goes in.
The chip will definitely be on the bin. As I said heard this story before. Unless they got it wrong as well.
A chip yes, but a special chip that can weigh the bin? Surely not, all the bin would need is an RFID chip. It would be much cheaper/easier to simply ID the bin with RFID and have the truck do the weighing.

Farce ain't it! I remember nearly every week they'd leave a new bin and some contractual guff with it 20 fucking pages long, telling you what not, and what to put in it! I'm all for recycling though so i'm not to bothered. All this weighing bollox is just that though!

Fuck councils..the lot of them.
There's 6 of us in our house:-
We have a grey bin for non-recyclable waste
A green bin for garden waste
A blue box for glass/cans/plastic
The grey bin goes every fortnight and the green/blue box every fortnight, alternating with the grey bin.
So 6 people fill them all in 1 week.
Have asked council for extra bins and they've said no.
So I told them I'd put everything in black plastic bags, then drive my diesel people carrier to the tip every weekend to chuck it all in the 'non-recyclable' skip.
If they can't accomodate people who want to recycle then fuck 'em.
In fact...I'm going to start burning cardboard in the back garden as well.
Kaipcunts the lot of 'em:rant:

Great stuff - It will encourage even more fly tipping. Recycling is good for unsustainable natural resources however the emissions to air and water in carrying out recycling is fucking up the environment so while good it's not all it's cracked up to be.
What exactly does council tax pay for? Apart from picking up the bins?

The breakdown on my bill says : County Council (biggest chunk), The Police Authority (never see any), the District Council, Parish Council.

The County Council bit I pay is towards the education of my children - both of whom go to school in a different county! This is because the powers that be decided to move the county border. I moved county without moving house! So my money is paying for some other fuckers kid and some other poor sod is paying for my kids!

Water and sewerage.

Water and sewerage.
Surely you pay the water board for those. I pay Water nd Sewage to Anglian, and then they pay Severn Trent for the sewage part. I get a seperate bill from Severn Trent for storm drains!

I think its different in Scotland - should have pointed that out. You only pay for water if your a commercial company.
Please anyone, if i'm talking out of my arse, let me carry on in ignorant bliss! Cheers.

We've got none of those in the village. Literally all we get is the bins emptied once a week. There's not even a shop. We do have 3 pubs mind. :D

The demise in Speckled Hen is what's causing me to spend more time in there though. I need to drink more of it to make up for the lost alcohol content. :sigh:

Not in the league of this one though http://www.est1892.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=4874&highlight=economics :haha:
Greater and greater demands are placed each year on households - council tax is raised every single year, yet the standard of services get worse - it's another case of rip-off Britain.
Up to 3 months ago, we had a weekly black sack collection and no recycling bins - now we have about 4 different storage units, but collections are now every two weeks. Now there is only the two of us (and a kitten) but we invariably fill the bin up within two weeks - I often have to take the excess to the tip. Drives me mad.
I'm all for recycling, but they need to provide the right tools to do the job.
Our combined council tax is almost £1,400 a year too - bastards.
I have a green bin...
I put loads of stuff in it, for instance, for tomorrows collection theres -
Half a bag of sand that the old tenant left here, a few plastic containers full of foul smelling water that she also left, a suitcase, a couple of speakers .... :D
Oh well, if they try charging me for shit, there's 1,000 acres of land here that I'll use to bury shit :D

Another point is, what if my bin is full of Junk mail then what i dont want, which i get of say Capital one or other crappy credit card companies, shouldnt they contribute to some of my disposal?

We have a red box thing to put junk mail in. Most of the time it doesn't even get opened, just straight in the red bin.

We used to get a recycling thing but it doesnt come here no more, i think because everyone in our street never really done it, it showed how much Vodka/Wine/Bourbon/Beer we drunk every week aswell.

As has been said, it goes up and up and the quality of service goes down. Bastards!
People will just dump their rubbish anywhere now, if it'll save them money. Fly-tipping, or whatever it's called.

Where Andy's Mum lives in Worcester the tip has been closed for a year to be "renovated" (ffs!), so they have to drive to Pershore or Droitwich. To ease this the council have placed one skip, that's ONE skip on some street corner somwhere to discourage fly tipping. One skip for Worcester and it's villages! And they have complained about the increase in fly tipping! These people are just total and utter planks!
Noticed on the way to work, that somebody has started a protest on the otherside of our village - basically saying that the new refuse collection is a joke, and that it's not up to the required standard - there then is a big stinking pile of black bin liners, full of rubbish! Lovely....

I live in the borough of Camden and from what I can see the council is run by ***** for the benefit of ***** such as themselves. That said the bin men do empty the bins twice a week.
